About this competition

First launched in 2019 by RMIT Activator Vietnam, The Future Founders Competition is an exciting entrepreneurial event for students to discover their true potential in building business ideas while making a real impact.

Each year, the competition presents a specific challenge statement that participants must address. This provides a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and find solutions to real-world challenges, as well as the chance to network and collaborate with like-minded peers, fostering a supportive and entrepreneurial community.

Challenge statement

How might startup ideas support Vietnam's digital economy in bringing forward innovative solutions to deliver an impact to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs by 2030?

Vietnam's digital economy offers opportunities for innovative solutions that can address existing social and environmental challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Future Founders Competition 2023 aims to leverage these opportunities and generate a significant impact by fostering the development of innovative startup ideas that contribute to sustainable development in Vietnam.

To achieve this, the competition focuses on five specific SDGs:

the phrase 3 good health and wellbeing in white on a green background

the phrase 8 decent work and economic growth in white on a burgundy background

the phrase 9 industry, innovation and infrastructure in white on an orange background

the phrase 12 responsible consumption and production in white on a brown background

the phrase 13 climate action in white on a green background

Participants are expected to identify a specific problem or challenge related to at least one of these SDGs and develop a viable startup idea that addresses it. The startup concept must embody qualities such as innovation, sustainability, scalability, and the potential to generate positive social and environmental outcomes.

Eligibility and requirements

Participants must be enrolled as current students of RMIT University Vietnam in either SGS or Hanoi campus
Entry is open to Teams: Teams can comprise up to 5 people; 1 person can form his/her own Team as an individual
Team members must be 18 years old or over
Submit the application form before 19 July, 11.59am

22 July: Event Launch, Workshops, Meet & Greet
31 July: Quarter Final round submission
12-13 August: 2-Day Hackathon
18 August: On-demand mentoring sessions
25 August: Semi-Final round submission
7-8 September: Mock pitch
14 September: Carnival (in collaboration with RMIT Career Fair) at Hanoi campus
21 September: Carnival (in collaboration with RMIT Career Fair) at SGS campus
23 September: Final Pitch

1st Prize: Cash Voucher & Seed Grant (Total of VND 45 million)

Since 2017, RMIT Activator has been unlocking entrepreneurial potential across founders, innovators, educators and student talents. Future Founders Competition is a flagship program of Activator which is held annually in semester 2 of the academic year. First launched in 2019, now, the competition comes to its 5th season.
