Have you completed RMIT’s Bachelor of Psychology or another APAC accredited three-year psychology sequence and want to take the next step? The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is an advanced one-year program designed to strengthen your research expertise, giving you a competitive advantage for future psychology career pathways and preparing you for higher study at the master’s or doctoral level.

You will deepen your understanding of professional and ethical practice, advanced research methods, psychological assessment and intervention, and contemporary issues in psychology. At the centre of the degree is an independently developed research project, completed across Thesis 1 and Thesis 2 with guidance from academic supervisors.

The program can prepare you to apply for professional postgraduate psychology programs, including clinical psychology, or pursue a research master’s degree or PhD. You will also develop transferable capabilities in research, evaluation, data interpretation, evidence-based decision-making and professional communication.

Studying at RMIT Vietnam gives you the opportunity to explore psychological questions within Vietnamese, regional and culturally diverse contexts while completing a program aligned with RMIT’s international psychology curriculum.

APAC Accredited

This program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as a pathway to further study for students who wish to pursue registration as a practising psychologist in Australia.

Learning, teaching and assessment

You’ll learn advanced skills in psychology through lectorial classes, as well as by working on your thesis research project with the guidance of academic supervisors from RMIT Vietnam and RMIT Melbourne.

Lectorials are the primary learning format and are used to communicate knowledge and guide student learning. They are complemented by online learning materials where appropriate.

These methods and approaches have been selected so that you will be equipped to undertake postgraduate studies in psychology or have the skills required to adapt to and work competently in workplaces that value knowledge and training in psychology (e.g. research assistant, project officer/manager).

For much of this degree, assessment is a blend of continual and final assessment. These may include

  • written examinations
  • multiple-choice quizzes
  • essays
  • assignments
  • oral and written individual and group presentations
  • a final thesis report.

The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers - and provide opportunities for access to and use of spaces where learning can be applied actively, including an array of specialised equipment.

Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content also forms the foundation for interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes. 

As a graduate of this course, you will be equipped with a thorough understanding of the theory and practice of psychological principles, enabling you to develop and conduct a psychological study independently. You will have the capability to collect, evaluate, integrate and report on research, making evidence-based decisions and recommendations that acknowledge real-world contexts.

You will also have highly developed communication skills, allowing you to engage with diverse audiences - including individuals and groups from different genders, sexualities and cultural and value-based background - in ways that are clear, concise, sensitive, ethical and professional. You will develop the capacity to work independently and proactively, taking initiative and seeking support as necessary.

A lifelong learner, you will continually expand and improve your professional practice to support your clients and reach your career goals effectively.

Career

You may either apply to enrol in a master's degree, a PhD, or seek employment.

Human services organisations offer many work opportunities. Provisional psychologists work in education, human services and in community health under the supervision of experienced registered psychologists.

Research psychologists may work in universities, government, non-government, or industry-based research environments.

Graduates can also find work in a wide range of areas, such as:

Graduates who wish to become registered psychologists, including general or clinical psychologists, will need to complete postgraduate study. This pathway follows Australian standards.

Further studies

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) opens pathways to further study at master's and doctoral level, preparing graduates to pursue careers as registered psychologists, researchers or academic professionals.

Upon successful completion of this degree, you may be eligible to apply for the Master of Clinical Psychology, Master of Psychology or PhD in Psychology.

Notes

    1. RMIT Vietnam has 3 semesters per year, in each semester you enrol into a maximum of 3 courses. The duration of programs is flexible and can be adapted on an individual basis upon enrolment. 
    2. Program fees are priced and invoiced in Vietnamese Dong (VND) by semester. Payments are made each semester, on a course-by-course basis.
    3. Payments made in foreign currencies will be converted to Vietnamese Dong (VND) based on the applicable exchange rate on the transaction date. Any currency conversion fees and related bank charges will be borne by the student.
    4. Online payment via myRMIT is the preferred payment method, as it offers secure transactions, automatic confirmation, and faster processing.

    Scholarships

    A scholarship is offered in Nguyen Van Dao's honour to the applicant with the best high school mathematics grade among all applicants.

    Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars are identified among those scholarship applicants who have achieved exceptional academic results and leadership while at high school.

    Academic Achievement Scholarship

    The Academic Achievement scholarships are awarded to those scholarship applicants who have achieved exceptional academic results in high school.

    Entry requirements and admissions

    Academic requirements

    Applicants must have successfully completed:

    • An APAC- accredited three-year sequence of study Psychology Bachelor degree with an average of at least 75% for the entire APAC-approved sequence*; OR
    • An Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in any discipline and an APAC accredited Level 1 bridging program (such as a one-year Graduate Diploma in Psychology) with an average of at least 75%.

    If you did not undertake psychology studies in Australia, you are required to contact the Australian Psychological Society and have your qualification assessed as equivalent to an APAC-accredited three-year sequence in psychology.

    English requirements

    Successfully complete RMIT Vietnam English Advanced, or complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

    • IELTS (Academic)/ IELTS (Academic) One Skill Retake: minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)
    • TOEFL iBT: score of 79 (with a minimum score of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
      • Please note that any tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 must be the TOEFL iBT Australia test. TOEFL iBT results reported on a 1–6 score scale are not accepted.
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 (with no communication band below 50)
    • Cambridge: minimum score of 176 (no less than 169 in any component), for
      • C1 Advanced, formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE); or
      • C2 Proficiency, formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)

    Notes
    • RMIT does not accept scores from at-home or online testing.
    • Previous study and proficiency tests are recognised for two years from the completion date or test date to the program commencement date unless stated otherwise.
    • When more than one form of English language proficiency test is presented, RMIT will only consider the most relevant achievement.
