Overview

If you have a passion for understanding the science of the mind and human behaviour, this program provides you with the theoretical and practical foundations to pursue a career in the field of psychology. 

In this program, you will examine broad topics of human behaviour and delve deeply into fundamental areas such as personality, psychopathology, social psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and research methods.

The degree provides a basis for pursuing further study if you want to become a practicing psychologist.

Psychologists study the processes around how people think and feel, working closely with clients to understand their mental state and how this may impact their behaviour.  They conduct research and provide treatments, including counselling, to help reduce distress and behavioural and psychological problems for people of all ages.

Program structure

WIL: Work Integrated Learning

Students can choose between 2 options for *General electives and **Program electives: 

  • Complete four (4) courses in the Mental Health Minor; or
  • Complete two (2) courses from the Mental Health Minor + two (2) General electives (choose from elective courses offered in any other programs)

Learning, teaching and assessment

This program is delivered through an innovative combination of traditional and digital techniques, which are designed to enhance your abilities to become an independent learner. You will engage in authentic learning activities that will develop your ability to research independently, to analyse information, and to communicate effectively in face to face and online situations. This approach reflects the reality of the contemporary workplace and will help to prepare you for your future studies and for engagement in global and industry led learning opportunities.

You will experience a range of blended learning environments, including lectures, tutorials, laboratory research, individual and group work. Online interactive learning materials are well developed and supplement teaching in lectures and activities in tutorials.

Assessments in most courses are undertaken through a mixture of continual and final assessment, and include written assignments, oral individual and group presentations, and laboratory reports.

You will be assessed by a variety of methods as appropriate to the material being taught and the skills being acquired.

Towards the end of the program, you will have a chance to put your knowledge and skills in real-world settings as part of Work Integrated Learning projects in the Professional Practices in Psychology and Psychology Field Placement courses.

Students in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) program gain a thorough education in the scientific discipline of psychology and an introduction into the application of the discipline. 

Graduates will have sound evidence-based knowledge as a foundation either for entering employment, where they can use the knowledge and approaches of psychology in areas such as marketing research or human resources, or for pursuing advanced level psychology programs to become a clinical psychologist. 

Upon the successful completion of this program, you will be able to:

  1. Understand appropriate and relevant fundamental and applied evidence-based knowledge, and undertake life-long learning to improve personal and professional practice.
  2. Demonstrate a capacity to employ a variety of approaches and procedures to research to permit judgements and decisions to be supported by appropriate evidence that places practice within a global and local context.
  3. Apply knowledge to solve problems in a wide range of diverse situations, with an ability to work independently or with others and to incorporate the analysis of evidence-based scientific literature to solve psychological problems.
  4. Engage in dialogue with a diverse range of people and communicate in a broad range of forms (written, electronic, graphic, oral) to meet the circumstances of the situation and the capabilities of the audience.
  5. Maintain tolerance and respect for individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and holding diverse values, adhere to professional expectations and demonstrate ethical behaviour.
  6. Develop collaborative partnerships with colleagues, other professionals and the community that build on the capacity of others, and develop open and flexible relationships that adapt to evolving needs and aspirations.

Graduates who would like to practise as a psychologist will need to undertake postgraduate study and should confirm requirements with the regional authority responsible for practitioner registration.

Further studies

When you successfully complete this program, you may be eligible for entry into an RMIT honours or postgraduate program in Vietnam and Australia.

  1. The duration of programs is flexible and can be adapted on an individual basis upon enrolment.
  2. Program fees are priced and invoiced in Vietnam Dong (VND).
  3. Payment in other currencies will be converted to VND at the exchange rate on that day. Bank transfer is the preferred method of payment.
  4. The fees in USD are ONLY applicable to those international students who arrange for payment from overseas, as per Circular No. 32/2013/TT-NHNN.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

  • Vietnamese Upper Secondary School (High School) Graduation Diploma with a minimum GPA of 7.0/10.0 for Grade 12 (For other international qualifications please view entry requirements by country​; and
  • A minimum score of 6.0/10.0 (or equivalent) in Grade 12 Mathematics, or Geography, or any Science subject.

English requirements

Successfully complete RMIT Vietnam English Advanced, or complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL iBT 79 (with minimum score of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) 58 (no communication band below 50)
  • C1 Advanced (formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)) or C2 Proficiency (formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)) 176 (no less than 169 in any component)

Note:

Previous study and proficiency tests are recognised for two years from the completion date or test date to the program commencement date unless stated otherwise.

Where you have achieved more than one form of English language proficiency only the most relevant achievement will be considered in the admission decision.
