Sustainability Week is RMIT’s flagship annual event. In Vietnam, building on the success of the 2024 edition, this week-long celebration is designed to inspire action, spark dialogue, and strengthen RMIT’s leadership in advancing sustainability across Vietnam and the region. 

With this year's theme “Sustainability in Action", we brings together students, staff, industry partners, and the wider community through workshops, showcases, and activities, the event highlights the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and RMIT’s 7Rs Culture (RMIT: Going Beyond Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle), empowering participants to embrace sustainable practices and drive collective impact.

The Green Week Challenge is an interactive, week-long initiative designed to engage the RMIT community in sustainable actions across campus during Sustainability Week 2025. Each day, participants will take on fun and practical sustainability challenges - from reducing waste to making greener travel choices and energy-saving actions.

The Green Events Partnership invites departments, student clubs, and external partners to make their events more eco-friendly and aligned with sustainability best practices during Sustainability Week 2025. This initiative provides guidance, resources, and support to help turn ordinary events into sustainable experiences. 

Together, we reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and promote inclusivity — creating events that are fun, meaningful, and environmentally responsible. Beyond Sustainability Week, the Green Events Partnership continues to embed sustainable practices into events, strengthening RMIT’s commitment to lasting change and nurturing a culture of sustainability across the wider community. 

 

What to expect 

  • Sustainable Booth Design & Award: Participating clubs and organisations are encouraged to design their booths using recycled or reusable materials — showcasing creativity while minimising waste. The most sustainable booth will be recognised with the Sustainable Booth Award, receiving 500,000 VND in Club Reimbursement from the Student Council. 
  • Educational Engagement: Visit the Student Council booth and take part in the Waste Sorting Game, a fun and interactive way to learn about recycling and environmental responsibility. By taking part and completing a short survey, you’ll also earn Green Week Challenge points.

The 17 SDGs Exhibition is a dynamic, multi-dimensional showcase where RMIT students, staff, industry partners, and the wider community come together to explore how sustainability is embedded in practice. The exhibition highlights how RMIT community contributes to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through research, teaching, operations, and community engagement. 

Designed as an open and self-directed experience, the exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in interactive displays, storytelling, and digital experiences that make the SDGs tangible and relatable.

DAY 1 is all about exploring how science and technology spark real solutions for a sustainable future.

The Opening Event ignites Sustainability Week with energy and inspiration - uniting the community to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and purpose, setting the tone for a week of meaningful impact and action. 

Delivered by: RMIT School of Science, Engineering and Technology (SSET) 

This flagship session explores how Science, Engineering and Technology are driving practical solutions to sustainability challenges in Vietnam and beyond. The panel brings together academics, researchers, and industry experts to discuss how innovation in STEM can advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals - from clean water and renewable energy to sustainable infrastructure and inclusive growth.

Complementing the panel discussion, the STEM Showcase presents a collection of innovative projects, prototypes, and applied research from the School of Science, Engineering and Technology. Each project demonstrates how scientific inquiry and engineering design can contribute directly to sustainability from water purification technologies and renewable energy systems to sustainable urban infrastructure and digital solutions for smart cities.

DAY 2 sparks ideas and action through workshops and a dynamic symposium, reimagining education, nurturing mental well-being, and driving innovation for a more sustainable and inclusive future.

This interactive workshop brings together students and staff as equal partners in reimagining the future of higher education at RMIT. Grounded in the Student as Partners (SaP) approach, the session explores how the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can serve as a foundation for co-designing innovative, inclusive, and values-driven learning experiences. 

Through open dialogue and collaborative exercises, participants will examine how sustainability and global citizenship can be meaningfully embedded into learning design, while reflecting on their own experiences as learners and educators.

This workshop explores the intersection between climate change and mental health, inviting participants to understand and respond to the psychological impacts of the climate crisis. Led by EMBRACE Vietnam in partnership with RMIT Sustainability, the session provides an open, safe space for dialogue and self-reflection while introducing the EMBRACE Toolkit—a co-designed resource supporting resilience and mental well-being in a changing world.

This panel explores how sustainability is not a limitation but a catalyst for creativity, innovation, and business growth within the food and beverage (F&B) industry. Harvesting Green Value examines how culinary professionals and social enterprises are transforming food waste into new economic and social opportunities, maximising ingredients through zero-waste techniques, and embracing ethical sourcing to create positive impact.

This immersive workshop takes participants on a sensory and educational journey through the world of sustainable chocolate. Guided by professional chocolatiers, attendees will explore the full bean-to-bar process — from understanding cocoa origins to crafting their very own chocolate bar. 

The session highlights Callebaut’s Cocoa Horizons Program, which ensures fair income for cocoa farmers, supports local communities, and protects forests through ethical sourcing. Participants will discover how sustainability and indulgence can go hand in hand, making every bite a meaningful one.

This interactive workshop equips first-year students with foundational public speaking skills while connecting communication to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Designed and delivered by RMIT Job Shop, the session helps participants build confidence and refine their presentation techniques through practical exercises, peer feedback, and reflection.

Using SDG topics as presentation prompts, participants explore how communication can become a tool for advocacy and positive change. By practising with real-world sustainability themes, students not only strengthen their employability skills but also develop an awareness of global issues that shape future careers.

Organised by Shrek Gals, this hands-on workshop invites you to craft your own vegan, eco-friendly lip balm using natural ingredients like candelilla wax, shea butter, and organic jojoba oil — all packaged in compostable kraft paper tubes. Through this creative experience, you’ll also learn about Green Chemistry and how small changes in our daily choices can support SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

This playful and hands-on career workshop helps students connect personal development with sustainability through the lens of SDG 4: Quality Education. Instead of simply discussing “green jobs,” participants will build their own Sustainable Career Toolkit using LEGO as a creative medium. The session links employability and lifelong learning to sustainability by encouraging students to reflect on their skills, values, and actions for building meaningful, future-ready careers.

This seminar invites RMIT academics, researchers, and industry collaborators to explore how we can move beyond sustainability towards regenerative futures. Hosted by the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) in collaboration with the Sustainability Department, the session highlights RMIT’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and introduces the Regenerative Futures Institute, which is a flagship initiative positioning RMIT at the forefront of sustainability-driven research and innovation.

Through keynote presentations, flash talks, and an interdisciplinary panel discussion, the seminar showcases how RMIT is contributing to Vietnam’s and the region’s sustainability transition—bridging academia, government, industry, and community in co-creating solutions that regenerate, rather than merely sustain, our shared future.

Yes. Registration is required to join the Green Week Challenge and for most of the activities during Sustainability Week.

  • For the Green Week Challenge, you can register directly on our platform to track your daily challenges, earn points, and claim rewards.
  • For workshops, panels, and other events, you will need to register via separate forms provided for each activity. Be sure to check the updated event details for registration links and stay ready to join in!

Pre-registering helps you save time and ensures you're all set to participate in the activities you're interested in.
