What is myDesktop?

myDesktop is an online program that allows you to access eligible software and applications on your device from anywhere.

You can access myDesktop from any device (laptop, desktop, mobile, tablet) that has an internet connection. No matter what device you are using, your apps and files are always within easy reach – on campus or off.

RMIT Vietnam utilises myDesktop to enable staff and students with the independence they require from physical labs to learn and teach their coursework and to provide all students with remote access.

What myDesktop Vietnam does not support

  • Printing on campus
  • Access to RMIT Vietnam share drives
  • Student Record System (SRS)

How myDesktop works

myDesktop is a cloud-based platform accessed through an Internet browser to login to a virtual environment where users can access specific applications that were previously only accessed on campus, in a lab/classroom setting.

There are two ways to launch apps/desktops within myDesktop – referred to as the Light version and the Full version.

The Light version

The Light version is web browser based, where the application/software opens in a new browser tab.

The Full version

The Full version is accessed through "Citrix Workspace". This version opens in its own window. On campus you can access your computer drives directly. However, if using myDesktop outside of campus, please ensure to save your files on an external storage device e.g. a USB thumbdrive or hard drive.

Important: Make sure to save your work onto OneDrive, a USB, or your local drive before you exit a myDesktop session, as the files will not automatically save onto a shared drive.

Yes, however Google Chrome will provide the best experience.

We have an instructional video on ServiceNow with step-by-step instructions on how to do so.

A video on how to do so can be found on ServiceNow.

This feature allows you to open an extended desktop in a separate browser window, as if your RMIT Desktop session has multiple monitors. You can find out more on ServiceNow

Please ensure your Mac operating system is up to date.

To check this, click on the Apple icon > About this Mac > under 'Overview', click 'Software Update', the latest version will be displayed there.

You can also download a previous version of Citrix Workspace.

  1. Right-click on the Citrix Workspace App icon in your taskbar, then click Exit.
  2. Re-launch your application/desktop.

There could be a minor lag or slight application performance issues due to the applications residing within another environment. Hence, you may experience slowness when you first log on.

This type of issue occurs when previous instance has not been closed the right way. Hence the session stays inactive in the background.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

  • Step 1: Select ‘file’ on the top toolbar
  • Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of the left navigation bar and select ‘close'
  • Step 3: Select the ‘x’ on the top right corner of the application to end the session
  • Step 4: Open the application again and it should launch as expected

You can access myDesktop on almost any desktop or mobile device, including laptops and tablets.

Please login to MyDesktop to view the applications/software available to you.

If the software required for your course is unavailable, please discuss with your lecturer or course coordinator

Files are saved in your Documents folder in your user profile when you are using the application. However, upon logging out, the profile is deleted.

Save your files before logging out by either

  • Using OneDrive
  • Downloading the file onto your device.

For better experience, it is recommended to access files via Citrix Workspace Agent.
