RMIT students paint a picture of connection and harmony through cherished memories

Hosted by the RMIT Mass Media Club – SGS, Tơ-gether recreates familiar scenes from human memories, crafting a nostalgic yet creatively modern event shaped by today’s generation of students

Tribute to the beauty of shared memories and connections

Tơ-gether is a student-led initiative proudly organised by the RMIT Mass Media Club – South Saigon Campus. Rooted in the club’s core values of creative, active and fun, this project celebrates the power of connection - a concept that may seem simple or ordinary but holds extraordinary emotional and cultural significance.

At its heart, Tơ-gether seeks to honour the beauty of human bonds and shared memories. Whether it’s the quiet charm of an old street corner, the warmth of a neighborhood convenience store, or childhood relationships that shaped who we are today, the project invites us to revisit the past and find renewed motivation in the connections that carry us forward.

Driven by its mission to inspire creativity and foster meaningful engagement, the RMIT Mass Media Club has designed Tơ-gether as a multi-platform project, blending online storytelling with an on-campus exhibition. Through nostalgic visuals and interactive experiences, the project recreates familiar Vietnamese streetscapes and shared memories, culminating in a short film screening that captures the emotional tapestry of human connection.

Tơ-gether not only reflects the club’s vision to explore media in dynamic and innovative ways, but also reinforces its commitment to creating student-led experiences that are deeply rooted in culture, emotion, and community.

It all started with an ambition

After months of dedication through various projects, on-set filming, photoshoots, and content production, the Media department of RMIT Mass Media Club has continuously grown and achieved significant milestones. Building on these accomplishments, the Tơ-gether project officially entered the planning phase with a bigger ambition: bringing digital creations into real physical experience. This marks not only a step forward in format but also a turning point for the people behind the lens.

Weeks of brainstorming later, the club came up with a brief that was full of creativity, meaning, and human connection.  Throughout the preparation process, the team encountered its fair share of ups and downs. Yet, with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm, every member poured their heart into the project. Thanks to that shared passion and tireless effort, Tơ-gether finally came to life - not just as a creative showcase, but as a meaningful milestone for everyone involved.

Celebrating the beauty connections

After nearly half a year of planning, Tơ-gether finally came to life, offering attendees a one-of-a-kind experience through an interactive exhibition that felt both familiar and refreshingly new. Stepping through the door people were greeted by a vibrant scene that recreated an old Vietnamese street filled with artistic and nostalgic details. From a sidewalk iced tea stall to the familiar faces of the local snack vendor and roaming coffee seller, every corner told a story.

One standout feature was the “tạp hóa” (convenience store) setup, packed with childhood snacks and candy, an instant trip down memory lane. More than just a visual showcase, the exhibition was designed to engage all the senses, immersing visitors in a multi-sensory journey. It was a vivid testament to the creativity and hard work of the team behind Tơ-gether, transforming ordinary memories into an extraordinary celebration of connections.

Stepping out of the exhibition space, attendees were invited to explore yet another unique experience at RMIT – a short film screening. Titled“Bên kia đầu dây” (Across the line), the short film was produced by the talented members of the club, adding an emotional and cinematic layer to the event. More than just a continuation, the film deepened the audience’s connection to the theme of Tơ-gether and left a lasting impression. The production marked a bold step forward in student-led creativity at RMIT, offering a fresh and captivating way to engage with storytellingthat blended nostalgia, emotion, and innovation into a truly unforgettable experience.

‘We are grateful for it all’

For the members behind Tơ-gether, watching students hold the Tơ-gether stroll through the exhibition booths, explore and engage with the pieces they had spent months creating were moments of genuine joy, gratitude, and deep appreciation for the collective effort behind it all.

“As one of the project managers of Tơ-gether, I had the privilege of walking alongside this project from its earliest stages”, shared Khac Hieu, the Project Assistant of Tơ-gether. “Being through all the moments of uncertainty and challenge. I feel incredibly proud, not only of my own efforts, but of every single team member who poured their heart into making this happen.”

When the exhibition and the final short film screening wrapped up, it wasn’t just a sense of relief that he felt, it was the recognition of a milestone, and a new vibrant colour, added to the journey of RMIT Mass Media Club.

As her first time working on an exhibition project, Ha Vy, the Operation Leader of Tơ-gether, also had the same sentiment: “Tơ-gether was an entirely new type of event for me, and a truly unique opportunity. I felt proud to be involved in such a meaningful project.” Through all the many challenges and struggles, she has since gained so much experience. “I learned how to be more flexible, how to adapt quickly, and how to work better as a team. Tơ-gether taught me not just technical skills but also resilience and collaboration. It was truly an unforgettable and valuable journey of personal and professional growth.”

One door leading to many others

As a mid-high tier production project, Tơ-gether proudly welcomed over 200 RMIT students. This was an incredible milestone that reflects not only the strong interest from the student community, but also the impact and quality of the project itself. More than just numbers, the true success lay in how the event allowed attendees to appreciate and celebrate the quiet beauty of connection in life.

What made Tơ-gether even more meaningful was that it marked the first time RMIT Mass Media Club dared to take digital ideas and bring them into the real world. It was a bold move into uncharted territory - transforming virtual creativity into a tangible, immersive experience. While there’s always room for growth, for a first attempt, it was more than we could have hoped for.

This project opened a brand-new chapter for the club, expanding the playground for creative minds and laying the groundwork for even more ambitious ideas in the future.
