Overview

  • Progress directly into RMIT after meeting academic requirements
  • Experience a vibrant international campus with diverse activities and event
  • Access RMIT’s full student services, including career, wellbeing and academic support
  • Build skills and confidence through student-centred learning and assessment

The Foundation Studies program, designed for students who have completed Year 11 or equivalent, provides a specialised pathway into RMIT University in Vietnam or Australia, with options aligned to specific study areas.

Equivalent to Year 12 in the Australian education system, the program bridges the gap between high school and university, ensuring that students are fully prepared for bachelor’s-level study. On successful completion, students meet all academic and English language requirements for direct entry into an RMIT undergraduate program.

Delivered over two semesters (one academic year), the program consists of eight courses, including English, core courses related to the student’s chosen study area and a selection of elective courses. Small class sizes ensure personalised support, enabling students to develop essential skills alongside academic knowledge. Foundation Studies also helps foster strong connections with peers and lecturers through a range of collaborative activities.

As the ideal starting point for a university journey, Foundation Studies provides students with a solid ground for a confident and successful transition into the first year at RMIT.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Studies program and meeting the program’s entry requirements, including any prerequisite subjects and additional selection tasks (if applicable), you will be able to progress to an approved undergraduate program at RMIT in Vietnam or Australia.

Learning, teaching and assessment

  • Apply the rules of, and expectations for, academic study and assume responsibility for your own actions to work effectively as an individual and/or as a member of a group;
  • Develop and express ideas through independent reading, the creation of images, and the collection and interpretation of data and information;
  • Communicate ideas with clarity, logic, and originality in both spoken and written English;
  • Construct coherent arguments, narratives or justifications of issues, problems or technical processes when undertaking analytical, practical or creative tasks; and
  • Use a range of contemporary digital and learning technologies, tools and methods common to the discipline

RMIT Training’s Foundation Studies meets the requirements for Foundation Programs which have been registered on CRICOS in Australia. The curriculum is comparable in standard to an Australian year 12 curriculum.

Foundation Studies is delivered over two semesters (one year). You will study four subjects per semester with 20 hours of scheduled study per week.

The Foundation Studies curriculum encourages you to explore new ideas and consider your own place and purpose in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

Assessments are designed to connect learning with current real-world scenarios and can be structured as written or oral, and as independent or group activities.

Our learning activities promote engagement and are designed to build your confidence to think critically and creatively, to reason and to solve problems.

These are highly valuable and transferable employability skills required in all career paths.

During your studies, you will have access to:

  • High quality teaching and learning: our teachers are experienced in working with young students and understanding your needs
  • Student support: we offer tailored advice, guidance, counselling, reassurance and support as soon as you start
  • Academic support: tailored support and advice along your learning journey
  • Social activities: we arrange student gatherings, campus tours and other events to help you explore RMIT campus, meet other students and have fun

The School of English & University Pathways has a unique interactive class format, with the same learning and teaching approach and additional unique aspects specifically for online and blended classes. This gives flexibility to your learning with a mix of self-led and teacher-led activities.

It is very important that you attend all your classes and maintain satisfactory attendance while you are studying Foundation Studies at RMIT Vietnam. This means ideally attending all your classes.

If you cannot attend class, you should have proof of why you cannot attend. For example, if you are sick you should go to the doctor and get a medical certificate. You should submit a scanned copy of your medical certificate via email to the Foundation Studies email account.

Medical certificates must include the date/s that you did not attend class. Medical certificates do not cancel your absences but will help if you need to explain your attendance situation to the Program Assessment Board at the end of the semester.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Studies program with minimum required grades in your chosen stream, you will be able to progress to an approved undergraduate program at RMIT in Vietnam or Australia.
