Đoàn Tuấn Đức is a Vietnamese filmmaker, writer, and educator. He holds a Bachelor of Philosophy from the National University of Singapore (Singapore), a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from City University of New York (USA), and a Master in Management from ESSEC Business School (France).
He began making films at the age of 22, exploring themes of queerness and existential inquiry into suffering and liberation, informed by his long-term engagement with Dzogchen Buddhist thought and practice. His works have been screened at international festivals in more than seven countries. In 2015, he was selected for Berlinale Talents Tokyo, a global development program for emerging Asian filmmakers. His first feature screenplay, Father Figure, was selected as a finalist for Talents Tokyo Next Masters.
He is currently developing his second feature screenplay, Emerald Prince, inspired by Hermann Hesse’s novel "Narziss and Goldmund" and Đức's own reflections on the universal human longing for happiness. This project forms part of his broader PhD research on philosophy and queerness in cinema.
