As cloud technologies continue to transform organisations across the world, professionals with the relevant skills are in high demand. According to LinkedIn Learning, cloud computing is the second most sought after hard skill in 2020 (after blockchain).

In Vietnam, the cloud computing service market is projected to grow from US$165 million in 2018 to US$291 million by 2024, according to a report by Research and Markets.

Recognising the potential surge in demand for cloud-related skills, RMIT and AWS (Amazon Web Services) Academy have teamed up to offer four new cloud computing courses that will be integrated into RMIT’s Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) program.

These courses are planned to be delivered at RMIT’s Saigon South campus from Semester 2 2021 (starting in late June 2021), and then for the BIT program in the Hanoi campus from the subsequent semester.

RMIT University School of Science & Technology Dean Professor Julia Gaimster emphasised the importance of these new offerings.

“Both the expansion of the BIT program to Hanoi and introduction of the new cloud computing courses are in line with our plans to help build a new generation of IT talent for the fast-paced economy of Vietnam,” she said.

AWS Academy will provide the syllabus for all courses that teach the latest cloud-based tools and operations on the AWS cloud platform, which is currently being used by millions of customers, including large enterprises, startups and government agencies across the globe.

The contents will range from the basics of cloud computing, to intermediate-level knowledge of cloud developing, architecture and operations. Students completing these courses will gain knowledge of developing applications in the cloud environment, designing and evaluating cloud solutions to support specific business operations, as well as deploying and troubleshooting these cloud solutions.

news-3-rmit-and-amazon-join-forces-to-offer-new-cloud-computing-courses RMIT Senior Program Manager (Software Engineering & IT) Dr Duy Dang-Pham highlighted the competitive skills that students will gain through the new courses.

RMIT Senior Program Manager (Software Engineering & IT) Dr Duy Dang-Pham said “most importantly, students will also get practical experience working with the latest cloud-based tools and performing operations in a cloud environment”.

“The skills they gain will be valuable for industry jobs, not just in IT but any other emerging digital field,” he said.

Upon completion of the AWS Academy courses, RMIT students will be better prepared to take exams for professional AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Developer – Associate, and AWS SysOps Administrator – Associate.

Dr Duy believes that such certificates will serve as a competitive advantage for many students when they step into the labour market.

“We are working together with top industry organisations to make these qualifications and specialised knowledge more widely accessible. This is how we will help bridge the gap between academia and industry,” he said.
