Alumnus publishes book on advice for new graduates

RMIT Vietnam alumnus Le Tuan Anh knows what he wants to do with his career: help new graduates across Vietnam find their true calling. He has published a new book for just this purpose.

A graduate of the Professional Communication program in 2015, Tuan Anh recently published his first book on career consultation after three years of working in this field as a career counsellor and blogger.

Titled Nhắm mắt bắt được việc, (‘Find a job that makes you happy’ in English), the book is about much more than resume and interview preparation tips.

Based on Tuan Anh's experience as a resume writing coach and Career Consultation Project Manager, the book contains real stories, practical knowledge and guides for new graduates who are looking for career direction.

“We spend one-third of our life at work, hence doing a job where you feel a good sense of compatibility with your strengths and personality is crucial, as this makes your life so much better.” Mr Tuan Anh said.

Based on his experience as a resume writing coach and Career Consultation Project Manager at UNESCO-CIC (UNESCO Centre of Consulting and International Communication), Mr Anh’s book contains real stories, practical knowledge and applicable guides, instead of strictly theory.

A total of 3000 copies of the book have been printed, and it became one of top 27th best-selling books on Tiki within one week of being released.

According to Mr Tuan Anh, new graduates do not necessarily have to set big goals immediately. The first step is to establish a close relationship with their self and understand their unique capabilities, as well as their weaknesses. They also need to answer key questions such as: “What can I do better than everyone else?”, “What are my values in life?” and “What is a meaningful life for me?”

This is why the book includes a detailed guide to a variety of personality and career tests, which are very helpful for first-time job seekers.

“However, I am not saying that you should wait to find a perfect job, as there is no such thing,” Mr Tuan Anh explains. “You can learn a great deal no matter what you do for a living. Start your new job with a willing-to-learn attitude and keep in mind that career consultation is a life-long journey.”

As a career blogger, Mr Tuan Anh also shares his knowledge and experience with one million subscribers on his own blog on a daily basis. However, he decided to publish his book because he believes it can serve as a guide for recent graduates in Vietnam.

He also plans to publish a book about building personal branding later this year.

“After all, you are your own inspiration; do not let jobs that don’t fit keep you away from who you are,” Mr Anh stated.
