Michal Teague is an Associate Lecturer in Design Studies working to facilitate the recently launched Design Studies program at the Hanoi Campus. She was the Key Academic Contact in Hanoi for the recent "Vietnam Festival of Media and Design: Hanoi 2019."

For the past 10 years Teague has worked professionally as a transnational practitioner and educator in art, design and communication in the Middle East and Vietnam. Michal Teague holds a Master of Art in Public Space from RMIT University Melbourne. Prior to becoming an educator, she ran a graphic design agency in Sydney, Australia for over 10 years.

Teague’s areas of research interest and creative praxis are social design, creative and cultural industries, urban spaces and transnational design pedagogy.

  • 2020: Internal RMIT Research Grant, secondary researcher in team led by Dr Emma Duester for ‘Digitizing the creative industries in Hanoi: A Case Study on Matca Space for Photography and the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.’
  • 2009 -2011: Developed AURA a yearlong Community Arts Partnership Residency program using public artists to energise under-utilised facilities. Funded by Arts Victoria.

  • 2016 - Winner of Art Dubai ArtBus commission for 'Garden' 
  • 2013 - 'Ellipse' commission for 'The City is Your Canvas' on The Walk, Jumeirah Beach Residences, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority 
  • 2012 - 'Drift' commission for the ‘Outdoor Art Project' by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

 

Creative Industry Professional:

1995 - 2005 - Director, Teague Moore Design, Sydney Australia - Art Director, Copywriter and Director of a design firm. Overseeing designers, print management, client liaison, art direction of design and photographic shoots, planning marketing/advertising campaigns, writing copy and proofreading for government, corporate, retail and creative industry clients.

Public Art:

  • 2010 - artist team from RMIT University, Melbourne and the Sile City Council in Turkey to devise and install public artwork for a playground. 
  • 2009 - Curator and Lead Artist for Parking, a 10 day public art event, part of the Big West Festival, Melbourne.
  • 2009 - 2010 Member of the Brimbank Public Art and Acquisitions Committee (PAAC) Served as the artist representative on the committee involved in developing EOI guidelines and assessing and selecting artist project submissions for the Brimbank Council Public Art Program.

Artist Educator:

  • 2013 - 2016 - Devised and presented Camp Creative and Camp Cinema programs with Labor of Love.
