RMIT and Vietrade sign MoU to boost Vietnam’s global competitiveness

The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RMIT University Vietnam to enhance Vietnam’s enterprise competitiveness and national branding efforts in both domestic and international markets.

The signing ceremony took place at RMIT’s Hanoi campus on 23 January 2026, marking a new milestone in the partnership between Vietrade and RMIT, which has steadily grown in recent years through their cooperation in organising capacity building activities and promoting the Vietnam Value program among the business community.

Speaking at the ceremony, RMIT Vietnam Pro Vice-Chancellor and General Director Professor Scott Thompson-Whiteside highlighted the shared vision and values that underpin the partnership:

“Over the past few years, our collaboration with Vietrade has been strengthened by trust, shared values, and a joint commitment to advancing Vietnam’s competitiveness. This cooperation reflects RMIT’s broader mission: to contribute to the nation’s future through high-quality education, innovative research, and partnerships that create tangible impact for industry, government, and society.

“For RMIT, this partnership also reaffirms our role as a bridge – connecting Vietnam with global knowledge, networks, and opportunities. Together with Vietrade, we will create initiatives that bring long-term benefits to enterprises, society, and the economy.”

The MoU outlines a framework for long-term cooperation in areas that benefit the business community, such as trade promotion capacity building, training, and research and education related to brand development and international business.

Vietrade will cooperate with RMIT Vietnam in organising activities related to the annual Vietnam National Branding Forum, designing and delivering enterprise training and consulting programs, and conducting research to inform policy and business strategy. Vietrade will lead coordination efforts, connect RMIT with businesses, and provide data and guidance to support joint initiatives.

Mr Vu Ba Phu, Director General of Vietrade, expressed strong support for the partnership:

“This MoU marks a new chapter in our collaboration with RMIT Vietnam. By combining our expertise and networks, we will empower Vietnamese enterprises to build stronger brands, raise their competitiveness globally, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

“We look forward to working closely with RMIT to deliver impactful programs that serve the needs of industry and society.”

The signing ceremony not only celebrated the development of both organisations but also demonstrated their long-term commitment to Vietnam’s development and global integration.

Looking ahead, both parties expressed confidence that their partnership will continue to grow in scope and impact. With strong leadership and shared determination, RMIT and Vietrade aim to co-develop initiatives that showcase Vietnam’s innovation, resilience, and global vision, supporting the country’s journey toward sustainable and inclusive growth.
