Vietnam Education Festival honours AI innovations in education

Co-organised by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and RMIT Vietnam, the Vietnam Education Festival on AI and Digital Innovation 2025 created a nationwide platform for teachers to connect, learn and share best practice.

As part of the festival, the organisers launched the inaugural Vietnam AI in Education Excellence Awards to recognise products and initiatives applying AI in teaching, educational management and development.

Following more than a month of calls for entries, the organisers received a record of 7,700 submissions from educators across 34 cities and provinces. Entries spanned a wide range of content and formats and demonstrated breakthrough applications of AI, including learning assistant chatbots, tools integrated with VR, automation solutions for teaching and school management, AI platforms for skills education, as well as solutions supporting inclusive education, preserving local culture, and strengthening digital capabilities for students in disadvantaged and ethnic minority communities.

After a rigorous evaluation process, the organisers announced the Top 100 entries, Top 50 finalists, and three institutions receiving collective excellence awards. All finalists were assessed against clear criteria including practicality, creativity, impact and demonstratable results, sustainability and scalability, and quality of presentation.

The festival drew more than 700 educators and administrators from cities and provinces nationwide, along with leaders and representatives from MOET, DOETs, pedagogical and technology universities, technology businesses, and almost 44,000 teachers participating online from across the country. The event is supported by Saigon University, University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), and sponsored by DesignLive, SSIS, and BenQ.

At the festival, 49 top products were displayed, presented and introduced. The event also featured technology exhibition, alongside specialist seminars and panel discussions delivered by experts from RMIT Vietnam, University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, InnoLab Asia, and Apple education experts from Compnow (Australia).

“Today’s finalists, selected from more than 7,700 submissions, represents the creativity, passion, and dedication of Vietnam’s teachers and school leaders,” Professor Thompson-Whiteside said.

“These numbers are not only impressive; they reflect the profound positive impact created through the strategic partnership between MOET and RMIT Vietnam.

“This year also marks 25 years of RMIT Vietnam’s journey as a trusted partner in Vietnam’s education and development. We are dedicated to strengthening human capacity, supporting digital transformation, building sustainable partnerships, and contributing to national priorities through research, innovation, and community impact. Our collaboration with MOET on the Forum and the EEAI project is a vivid illustration of these commitments in action. We look forward to continuing to strengthen this partnership. Together, we can ensure that AI becomes a practical enabler of educational progress today, delivering meaningful benefits to Vietnam’s teachers, learners, and communities,” he said.

The festival successfully concluded the 2025 activities under the Vietnam Education Innovation Forum with AI initiative, proposed by RMIT Vietnam (EEAI project) and implemented in partnership with MOET’s Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators.

In collaboration with MOET, the Empowering Educators with AI (EEAI) project, led by Dr Tran Duc Linh and Dr Pham Chi Thanh from RMIT Vietnam’s School of Science, Engineering & Technology, delivered the first official, nationwide AI training programme for over 350,000 K–12 teachers and education administrators in 2025. This success contributed to Vietnam’s ranking fifth globally for the proportion of teachers applying AI in teaching, according to the 2024 Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS). The project was also recognised as Educational Innovation of the Year at the Smart Education Initiative (SEI) Awards 2025.

Building on this momentum, MOET and RMIT plan to continue the forum in 2026, including advanced AI training programs for teachers nationwide, as well as the festival and awards to encourage and amplify AI innovations in schools. The forum will remain a key space for the teacher community to exchange, learn, and promote effective, breakthrough and responsible AI adoption in education.
