RMIT rises in global rankings

RMIT has ranked 206th in the latest QS World University Rankings, consolidating its reputation as a global leader in education and research.

The strong results are an increase of 17 places from last year and 94 places since 2015.

The University is now ranked 122nd globally and remains 8th in Australia for employer reputation, a metric that reflects which institutions employers look to for competent, innovative and effective graduates.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Martin Bean CBE said he was delighted that the results continued to recognise RMIT’s reputation for quality education, research and collaboration.

“By embedding industry and innovation in all our activities and embracing strong partnerships across the globe, we continue to prepare our students for life and work in an increasingly complex world,” he said.

“Our collaborative approach to research is focused on solutions that will make a real and positive difference to our communities. That’s why these results are a true testament to the vision and determination of our people right across RMIT.”

These results follow RMIT improving across other major schemas in 2021.

In the 2021 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, RMIT ranked number three overall in the world, showcasing RMIT’s continued progress against the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The University also continued to shine in the 2021 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects with six subjects placing in the top 100 and 20 ranking in the top 200.

In the 2021 CWTS Leiden Ranking, which ranks the world’s top research intensive universities, RMIT continued to perform well in both Impact and Collaboration metrics; ranking in the top 200 in six out of the 13 metrics for Impact.

QS World University Rankings have been published since 2004, with 1,380 institutions ranked this year compared to 800 in 2014.
