Central Highlands educators gain digital learning and career guidance strategies

More than 220 educators from Lam Dong Province recently attended a series of RMIT Vietnam workshops on digital learning and career consultation in Da Lat.

Organised by RMIT Vietnam in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training (DOET) in Lam Dong Province, the workshops hosted participants from 50 high schools, two universities and several continuing education centres.

Including modules on applying technology to learning and teaching, the workshops gave participants access to learning materials and career coaching skills, and followed a structure which enabled them to both learn through experience and apply new skills within a reflexive framework.

During the Digital Technology Application in Learning and Teaching workshop, participants were given the chance to discuss learning theory, to trial software applications, to create and share digital content, and to discuss their current teaching practices.

Participants also explored RMIT Access, an initiative enabling students with a broad range of learning difficulties greater access to education.

In the Career Consultation workshop facilitated by RMIT Vietnam Career Support and Advisory Manager Ms Phoenix Ho, local teachers learnt valuable assessment techniques to help their students discover their personal interests and skills, and then connect them to the available training programs at the appropriate vocational school, college, or university.

Educators from Lam Dong DOET learnt about applying technologies in learning and teaching.

At the program opening, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Lam Dong Province, Tran Duc Loi, said that the enhanced application of digital technology in teaching and management as well as an improvement in career guidance education were two of the department’s core objectives for the current academic year.

“With the participation of experienced educators from RMIT Vietnam, the workshops will have an influence on local teachers’ practice by offering them the opportunity to improve their professionalism, giving them a better understanding of applying digital technology in teaching and learning, and providing information and shared experiences—as well as best practice—in career consultation,” Mr Loi said.

Welcoming all participants to the workshops, RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald emphasised the University’s commitment to improving specific education skills throughout the country.

“RMIT Vietnam has a strong commitment to sharing its expertise in digital learning and teaching with Vietnam’s wider academic community,” she said.

Prior to these workshops, RMIT Vietnam had collaborated with DOET in Lam Dong Province in early 2015, organising a career guidance workshop for more than 160 educators from 59 high schools and 12 areas in Lam Dong Province.
