Meet Dr Bidyut Hazarika: your guide to cross-border e-commerce success

In a world where digital commerce knows no borders, Dr Bidyut Hazarika stands at the intersection of technology, business innovation, and real-world impact. His journey from electronics engineering in India to becoming a leading voice in cross-border e-commerce education perfectly embodies what RMIT's "Ready for what's next" philosophy is all about.

A global perspective, local impact

Dr Hazarika's path to RMIT Vietnam wasn't conventional, but it was purposeful. Armed with a PhD in Computer Science and Information Systems, plus an MBA in Information Systems and Finance from the US, he's spent the last decade teaching and consulting across four countries – the US, China, India, and Vietnam. This is the kind of global experience that translates into classroom gold.

"What drew me to RMIT Vietnam was the opportunity to engage in truly global, industry relevant education," Dr Hazarika explains. His experience spans the full spectrum of digital transformation, from working with multinational corporations to advising start-ups navigating the complex world of cross-border retail and fintech.

Where theory meets reality

For those wondering whether a business degree will actually prepare them for the real world, Dr Hazarika's teaching philosophy should put those questions to rest. "Theory is the compass, but practice is the journey," he says, perfectly capturing his experiential, inquiry-driven approach.

This practical approach is matched by Dr Hazarika ability to create those "lightbulb moments" that every student remembers. Whether it's through hackathon style brainstorming sessions, structured debates on AI ethics, or group simulations on global product launches, he's mastered the art of making complex concepts click.

He also regularly brings in guest speakers from logistics firms, cross-border platforms, and regional fintech start-ups – not just to add credibility, but to show students the "messy, real-life challenges behind the strategies we discuss."

Preparing leaders for tomorrow

For Dr Hazarika, "Ready for What's Next" isn't just RMIT's tagline – it's a personal mission. "To me, it means preparing students not just for their first job, but for a career of lifelong learning and change," he explains. In his Managing Cross-border e-Commerce in the Digital Era course, students develop the digital fluency, analytical rigour, and cultural intelligence needed to lead in an increasingly connected world.

Dr Hazarika's classroom is a collaborative learning space where global trends meet local insights, where academic theory meets business reality, and where students grow as confident thinkers and communicators.

In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, having an educator who bridges innovation and impact isn't just valuable – it's essential. Dr Hazarika represents what modern business education should be: globally experienced, practically grounded, and genuinely committed to student success.
