Ondris Pui

Ondris Pui is an Associate Lecturer in Design Studies at RMIT University Vietnam, where he teaches interaction design, immersive media, and emerging digital technologies. His work bridges design, digital heritage, and interactive media, exploring how accessible technologies can widen participation in the documentation, preservation, and communication of cultural and environmental heritage.

His current research investigates low-cost yet high-quality workflows for 3D digitisation, combining smartphone photogrammetry, drones, LiDAR, Gaussian Splatting, WebXR, and artificial intelligence to create immersive experiences for museums, heritage sites, and communities. His practice-led research focuses on making advanced digital documentation techniques accessible to educators, researchers, cultural organisations, and the wider public.

Ondris collaborates with museums, universities, and industry partners across Asia to develop innovative approaches to digital heritage, interactive storytelling, and public engagement. Recent projects include the digitisation of museum collections, village architecture, and cultural landscapes, alongside the development of AI-assisted interpretation and immersive exhibitions.

His currently Practice-based research is on investigating how immersive technologies can widen access to Vietnamese cultural heritage through accessible digital documentation and interactive experiences.

In 2018, Ondris received the RMIT Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for developing future-ready curricula through augmented and virtual reality and establishing the Mixed Reality Laboratory at RMIT Vietnam. His collaborative work has been showcased at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition  La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Architecture Biennale 2025), reflecting his ongoing engagement with international research and creative practice in digital heritage and immersive technologies. 

In 2025, Ondris co-organised the Cultural Heritage Unlocked Symposium, an interdisciplinary event that brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore emerging approaches to digital heritage and cultural preservation. The symposium included participation from UNESCO Hanoi and was supported through an RMIT Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) grant led by Dr Tammy Wong Hulbert.
