Duy Phan is a Lecturer in Game Design at RMIT University Vietnam with over eight years of experience across game development, higher education, visual design, and interactive media. Before joining RMIT, he was a Lead Game Designer at Sky Mavis, where he led the game design vision and user experience for Project Homeland, managed and mentored designers, and contributed to company-wide hiring, knowledge sharing, and game development initiatives. Prior to that, he worked as a Game Designer at IMBA, designing gameplay systems, creating visual effects, leading multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior designers.
Alongside his industry career, Duy has worked as a freelance Game and Visual Designer on a range of interactive media projects, including Upstander, a VR short film that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was officially selected for Cannes XR and other international film festivals.
At RMIT, Duy designs industry-aligned courses that bridge academic learning with professional practice. He develops teaching resources and digital tools that enhance learning and streamline teaching processes, mentors students in both technical and professional skills, and organizes industry engagement activities that strengthen partnerships with game studios while creating valuable networking opportunities for students. He is also an active contributor to the game development community, regularly serving as a guest speaker, mentor, and judge for events such as Game Jam and GameVerse.
Duy’s teaching and professional interests include game design, gameplay systems, user experience (UX), game production, emerging technologies, and preparing students for successful careers in the games and interactive media industries.
