RMIT Vietnam to co-host a summit to advance child wellbeing in Vietnam

Vietnam Child Protection & Safeguarding Summit 2024 promotes safeguarding practices to support child protection and wellbeing, and increase collaboration among educational institutions, service providers, NGOs, industry, government agencies, and embassies in Vietnam.

Co-hosted by RMIT Vietnam, AmCham Vietnam and Saigon International Schools Network, the one-day event will offer sessions on a range of topics related to professional skill development, information on current trends, and panel discussions with experts. Participants will also have the opportunity to network and generate ideas on how to collaborate more frequently on child protection matters.

Medical Director for the International Centre for Missing and Exploiting Children, Dr Jordan Greenbaum will offer the headline keynote on the international landscape for child protection. Additional keynote topics include what generational differences in Vietnamese families, cybercrime affecting children, and substance use among youth in Vietnam.

The keynotes will be simultaneously translated from English to Vietnamese, and there are 20 breakout sessions in either English or Vietnamese. Topics of breakout sessions range from developmental trauma and safeguarding practice in early years, to addressing physical abuse and understanding cyberbullying.

Associate Director of Wellbeing from RMIT Vietnam, Mr Michael Tower said supporting children and families going through crises is a challenging task for practitioners and the summit provides a great opportunity to share and solve challenges and learn from each other.

“One of RMIT’s commitments to Vietnam is to focus on community engagement activities that make a difference to the communities we serve.

“Sponsoring this event to facilitate professional development and networking in the areas of child protection, safeguarding, and mental health in Vietnam is a testament to the long-term commitment of the University to the community,” said Mr Tower.

Although the event is chargeable, the event sponsors have made provisions for people who cannot afford to pay the fee to attend the event free of charge.
