RMIT University offers more than 48 billion VND to students from Vietnam and beyond

Under its 2022 scholarship program, RMIT University in Vietnam presented 101 scholarships with a total value of more than 48 billion VND to students from Vietnam and beyond at recent ceremonies taking place at both its Saigon South and Hanoi campuses.

There are 67 scholarships for both local and international prospective undergraduate students, 16 scholarships for prospective graduate students, and 18 scholarships for current students.

The scholarships awarded to prospective undergraduate students, cover 25% to 100% of the university’s tuition fees, and are allocated across 17 different categories, such as opportunity scholarships, academic achievement, creativity, communication, and a range of school-based awards.

A highlight of the scholarship program this year is the increased number of the fully-funded and most prestigious and competitive scholarship – Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars.

This scholarship is awarded on merit, and considers past academic performance, passion for success, creativity, engagement with community involvement and future leadership potential, and covers full tuition fees for an undergraduate program and provides leadership development opportunities for the winners.

Eight prospective students across the country were named the new RMIT Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars in 2022.

RMIT Vietnam also awarded six Opportunity Scholarships, in which four are partnership with its community partners including REACH, KOTO, Vietnam Blind Association, and Sao Mai Center for the Blind.

Opportunity Scholarships are granted to students with disabilities or financial disadvantages who would not otherwise be able to access higher education at RMIT.

2016 Opportunity Scholarship recipient Hoang Nhat Minh, is currently working as the communications and special needs officer at Saigon Children’s Charity CIO, a British NGO working to empower disadvantaged children through education, and said the scholarship was a game changer to him.

“From an ordinary student with eye sickness, this scholarship provided me with a wonderful chance to study at a professional and dynamic environment like RMIT,” Minh said.

“Also, it helped me build my reputation, gave me more opportunities to learn and experience in different areas, such as special education, accessibilities, universal design, and marketing, therefore, I can meet many great people and expand my network.”

RMIT Vietnam’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Claire Macken was incredibly inspired while reading the applications, learning about student’s achievements, and their dreams and families.

“This year, we received almost 2000 scholarship applications from Vietnam and internationally and I know that our scholarship board were overwhelmingly impressed at the calibre of applicants,” Professor Macken said.

Professor Macken emphasised that RMIT University is committed to providing education and opportunities.

“Our Scholarship program provides opportunities for students from Vietnam and around the world to develop the skills, knowledge, and experiences to enable them to excel in a global work environment,” she said.

“During our 22 years in Vietnam, RMIT has awarded scholarships to more than 1600 high-achieving students, worth AU$28mil which is more than 468 billion VND.”
