RMIT alumnus gives back through mentoring

RMIT alumnus Nguyen Chi Duc has prepared future leaders for years by devoting his time and effort to mentor generations of RMIT students.

RMIT Master of Business Administration alumni and Regional Business Development Director of Votiva Vietnam Mr Nguyen Chi Duc shared his rich experience in technology and IT industries with RMIT students.

Graduated from RMIT Master of Business Administration program in 2008, the Regional Business Development Director of Votiva Vietnam Mr Nguyen Chi Duc said that it was his choice to make giving back to the community the default.

“I have been supporting the University and its students for more than 10 years,” he said.

While being busy leading consultancy services on business solutions in the cloud of Microsoft Dynamics in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, Mr Duc still took part in various activities at RMIT Vietnam including being a mentor and guest speaker in supply chain, technology, MBA and EMBA programs.

Mr Duc used his rich experience in business operations to help students excel in national and international business competitions.

“A team of students I mentored won regional and international rounds of the prestigious RMIT Business Plan Competition in 2014,” Mr Duc shared.

Having experienced the ups and downs in his career, Mr Duc is well aware of the positive impacts a mentor can create on the mentees, especially young students.

“I started my career after spending seven years serving in the army,” he said.

“To move quickly from sales to leadership roles in IT industry was very challenging.

“Therefore, I find myself very sympathetic with the challenges students are facing while studying and embarking on their career. They need guidance from those who used to pursue the same path in order to learn and to grow quickly.”

Since 2020, Mr Duc has joined the RMIT Alumni Advisory Board to share his expertise with students and alumni, and also to connect and create business opportunities within the RMIT alumni community.

“I hope I can go hand in hand with RMIT to facilitate career success for more students,” he said.

“It will, eventually, contribute to the development of Vietnam’s economy and society.”
