RMIT Vietnam to offer more than 100 scholarships this year

RMIT Vietnam will award 103 scholarships with total value of VND37 billion for undergraduate and postgraduate students in its 2021 scholarship program.

There will be 103 scholarships available to study at RMIT Vietnam in 2021.

There will be 63 scholarships for both local and international prospective undergraduate students, 20 scholarships for prospective graduate students, and 20 scholarships for current students.

The scholarships for prospective undergraduate students, which cover 25 to 100% of the university’s tuition fees, will be allocated across 14 different categories, such as academic achievement, creativity, and opportunity scholarships, as well as a range of school-based awards.

This year, prospective students at Hanoi City campus will have opportunities to receive scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee to study design studies, information technology and other business programs.

RMIT Vietnam Executive Dean (Academic and Students) Professor Rick Bennett said that the new offers for students at Hanoi City campus is part of the University’s effort in producing talents for the capital city.

“With a population of more than eight million people, and a diverse range and richness of creativity and culture, Hanoi holds great potential for growth in various areas,” Professor Bennett said.

“Through the new offers in our programs, RMIT hopes to contribute to the city’s priorities and future plan.”

A full scholarship recipient, 2021 Chairman’s Award at Saigon South campus Vu Hoang Trung achieved outstanding academic results, including a perfect GPA, has demonstrated exceptional leadership, and has represented RMIT in numerous competitions and events.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars, the University’s most prestigious scholarship award, which covers 100% of the tuition fee, will be awarded to six outstanding high school students who have achieved exemplary academic grades and demonstrated outstanding community engagement and leadership potential. The candidates will be progressed through three selection rounds, including screening, shortlisting and an interview in English.

RMIT’s Opportunity Scholarship will expand from four to six in 2021 to give life-changing opportunities to more disadvantaged Vietnamese people who otherwise cannot access higher education.

Six full tuition fee scholarships for disadvantaged students to study at RMIT

Since 2020, the university has expanded its Opportunity Scholarships to give life-changing opportunities to more disadvantaged Vietnamese people who otherwise cannot access higher education.

“Operating under a not-for-profit model with profits remaining in Vietnam, we not only reinvest into our infrastructure, equipment and buildings, but definitely into the scholarship area,” Professor Bennett said.

“Instead of being open freely for anyone to apply, we targeted four particularly prestigious and well-known NGOs, including REACH, KOTO, Vietnam Blind Association, and Sao Mai Center for the Blind, for shortlisting those who need scholarships the most.”

“As well as receiving a full English and higher education tuition fee, monthly living stipend, accommodation, a laptop and home travel allowance (if applicable), the successful recipients will benefit from the expertise and global experience of RMIT’s academic staff, high-quality facilities and infrastructure, as well as an industry-informed curriculum and strong industry connections.”

The scholarship recipients will also have many other opportunities to improve their soft skills and broaden their horizons.

“These include, but are not limited to, extracurricular activities organised by student clubs and societies, the Personal Edge program, and study abroad opportunities at one of our 200 partner universities from all over the world,” he said.

And with the growth of visually impaired scholarship recipients over years, Professor Bennett hopes to boost the University’s proficiency and skills in working with the blind even more.

Since its inauguration in 2000 following the invitation of Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training to open a university in Ho Chi Minh City, RMIT University in Vietnam has awarded more than 1400 scholarships, worth more than VND367 billion to outstanding high school students, and to current students with high academic achievement.

Professor Bennett said the University’s annual scholarship program speaks well of its continuing effort to give back to the country and broader community.
