Rapid rise in Times Higher Education rankings

RMIT has risen 60 places in the 2020 Times Higher Education World Universities rankings released recently.

The University has leapt ahead to the 351-400 band, after being ranked in the 401-500 band for the past four years, again strengthening its place on the global stage.

RMIT University has risen 60 places in the 2020 Times Higher Education World Universities rankings.

The rankings compare the top 1,396 universities from 92 countries across four key pillars of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

RMIT was ranked 77th for international outlook, placing it in the top six per cent of universities for this core area that includes an assessment of international collaboration.

RMIT Vietnam Vice-President Academic Professor Rick Bennett said the strong results “reflected the dedication of RMIT academics, educators and professional staff to continue to make lasting impacts on our students and the wider community”.

“RMIT University is now placed in the top six per cent of universities worldwide for our international outlook, which honours our standing on a world scale as a truly global university,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of our culture at RMIT University, where we actively value and embed diversity and inclusion through our activities, our messaging and our goals.”

RMIT’s improved standing as a global university is also reflected across the most prestigious and research focused ranking schemas including the Leiden Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities for which the University climbed 133 places to an estimated rank of 354th in 2019 from 487th since 2016.

As one of the early institutions in Australia, The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology has evolved from humble beginnings 132 years ago to being granted university status in 1992. The University is growing to be one of the most globalised universities in the Asia Pacific region.
