RMIT University Vietnam’s International Business Colloquium entitled International business environment in Vietnam: opportunities, challenges and how to move forward saw the attendance of more than 300 international and local company leaders, policymakers, experts, scholars and students.

The event’s guest speakers came from government agencies and large corporations, and included Dr Tran Du Lich (advisor to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc), Dr Nguyen Sy Dung (former Deputy Head of the Office of National Assembly), Ms Ha Thu Thanh (CEO of Deloitte Vietnam), and Mr Blair Fowler (CEO of Renaissance Hotel Saigon). The speakers addressed Vietnam’s current business environment, managing across cultures, business culture and ethics, making free trade agreements work, and other major international business themes relating to Vietnam.

Dr Nguyen Quang Trung, RMIT Vietnam’s Discipline Lead for the International Business program and organiser of the event, said the colloquium aimed to explore the views from industry experts, policy makers and academics on the issues and challenges of international business in Vietnam.

“For the past two decades, Vietnam has been one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and has become increasingly attractive for foreign investment. Understanding the domestic business and policy environment is crucial for both foreign firms seeking to invest and Vietnamese firms seeking to internationalise,” Dr Trung said.

“Therefore, we wanted to establish a forum to discuss vital international business themes in Vietnam, and to build a foundation for a prestigious annual colloquium on Vietnam’s economic integration and international business best practice.”

The Colloquium, held at the University’s Saigon South campus, brought together stakeholders in international business, and improved inter-industry and inter-disciplinary networking and understanding, as well as enhanced government and industry engagement through dialogue.
