Vietnam’s future leaders recently joined Business Experience Day at RMIT Vietnam’s Saigon South campus, where more than 1700 students and parents met alumni, heard about career pathways, and took part in workshops and activities.

The workshops and presentations throughout the day gave visitors insight into teaching and learning at RMIT Vietnam.

“We take a practical approach to business education,” said Associate Professor Matthews Nkhoma, Head of the Centre of Commerce and Management.

“We do so through games and technology, and by applying real-world situations in the classroom.”

In the Finding the ‘Wow’ Factor workshop, students were introduced to the University’s newest program, the Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Working together with representatives from Buffalo Tours, the students designed a 4-day tour itinerary.

“This gives students a taste of the tourism aspects in our new program,” lecturer Cherry Sriratanaviriyakul said. “We work with industry to ensure our courses are relevant to the real world.”

At the alumni showcase, students saw what RMIT Vietnam business graduates have done out in the real world. Alumnus Nguyen Thi Minh Tam promoted her business Lo Cat (Jar of Dirt), a project aimed at ‘greening’ our working and living spaces, while Viet Flowers and homemade clothing designers Ao Nha Lam also showcased their products to visitors.

Ms Cam Anh attended the event with her 11th grade daughter, Bui Cam Vy. It was Anh’s second visit to the campus.

“Many students are confident and speak English fluently,” Anh said of RMIT Vietnam students.

“This is a good chance for my daughter to see new things, visit the campus for herself, and learn more about the career options available in the business field.”
