Students showcase employability at RMIT Vietnam Career Expo

Twenty-two student project teams demonstrated their expertise, practical skills and readiness for work as part of a career expo during RMIT Vietnam’s second Career Week of 2016.

Head of RMIT Vietnam’s Centre of Technology Professor Alex Stojcevski said that the showcase – set up alongside a traditional career expo – aimed to exhibit student projects to potential employers and generate opportunities for both parties.

“Our students are producing excellent work in their courses, much of which has practical applications in the marketplace,” Professor Stojcevski said.

“In the process they’ve acquired the knowledge and skills to excel in an economy that’s increasingly driven by technology and engineering.”

“This event provided a great opportunity for students to showcase their work, and in some cases even explore opportunities for collaboration with potential employers.”

Twenty five companies attended the Career Expo at Saigon South campus.

The projects on display were divided into IT and engineering categories and included an egg-catching game, a manga social network, a Lugagi Mobile app, an automated irrigation system, a robotic arm, a solar tracker, and other innovative applications.

Students from the Centre of Technology showcased their IT and engineering projects.

Manuela Spiga, Senior Manager Career and Employability Service, said the career expo was not only an opportunity to network with potential employers, but also to exhibit their employability skills.

Employers conducted on-the-spot interviews for full-time jobs and internships.

“The development of skills such as teamworking, communication and critical thinking are a crucial part of the students’ journey,” said Manuela.

“Over the past few semesters many of these students have developed those employability skills through our Career Passport, Personal Edge and other programs.

Students showcased a robotic arm which lifts and moves boxes.

“This expo is one of the important events on their journey, and gives students a chance to find out what employers expect of them.”

Potential employers visited the student showcase.

Twenty five employers attended the expo including Bosch, ABB, Schindler, TRG International and Misfit.

More than 200 interview sessions were conducted during the expo.

About 320 students attended the event at Saigon South campus.

During the series of events leading up to the expo, students attended panel discussions to learn from alumni currently working in technology companies and senior managers recruiting students for their firms.
