RMIT develops credit transfer arrangement with Sri Lankan university

RMIT University Vietnam has developed a credit transfer arrangement with the Sri Lankan-based South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

Professor Alex Stojcevski, Head of RMIT Vietnam's Centre of Technology, said the agreement applies to the Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics) (Honours) and the B.Sc. Eng (Hons) in Mechatronics Engineering offered at RMIT Vietnam and SAITM respectively.

“This credit transfer agreement will allow SAITM students to join RMIT Vietnam for 17 courses after they have completed their first two years at SAITM,” explained Professor Stojcevski.

“The SAITM students will graduate with a degree in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering.”

Professor Stojcevski added that this is a great time to be studying technology in Vietnam.

“In my opinion it’s the time to be in Vietnam when it comes to technology,” he said.

“When you’ve got some of the biggest tech companies in the world relocating here, it’s a huge sign of what’s going to happen. The future in technology in this country is very bright.”

To connect students with leaders from the burgeoning technology industry in Vietnam, RMIT Vietnam organises numerous events and activities throughout the year such as career fairs, project showcases, and panel discussions.

Across Southeast Asia the career prospects in technology are just as good. According to a 2016 study by the International Labour Organization’s Bureau for Employers’ Activities, the robot age is already a reality in ASEAN countries.

The study finds that: “More than 60 per cent of enterprises surveyed in the region see new technologies as a positive for increasing sales, labour productivity and employment of highly skilled workers.”

Nguyen Trung Duc, RMIT Vietnam’s International Relations Coordinator, added that RMIT Australia is already collaborating with SAITM on a similar credit transfer arrangement.

“We hope to welcome our first cohort in this 2+2 program in January 2019,” said Duc.

“These students will join a growing community of international students in HCMC and Hanoi, including a number of Sri Lankan students already studying here.”
