Hanoi City campus a magnet for talent

On 16 August RMIT Vietnam students networked with industry representatives at Talent Magnet, a unique event which featured a speed networking session.

Based on the concept of speed dating, students and alumni/industry representatives had less than two minutes to get to know each other. Each person gave a 45-second introduction of themselves before engaging in a short conversation and moving onto the next round.

The aim for students was to learn networking skills and, if they found the “right match”, even possibly land a job.

First-year Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) student Nguyen Thi Hai Trang believes that expanding her professional network benefits her studies now and helps her succeed in the future.

“The event provided me an opportunity to learn how to introduce myself in the most impressive way and in a limited time,” she said.

Second-year student Doan Nhat Nam was inspired by a guest panel with representatives from World Bank, Uber Vietnam, Navigos Search and School 4 Kids (RMIT Alumnus).

“I gained confidence,” Nam said.

“I came to talk to senior people I never met before, and ended up having deep conversations.”

Guest panellist and Navigos Search Vietnam Managing Director Ms Nguyen Van Anh told students that attitude determines success.

“Your attitude will make a huge difference in the working environment,” she said.

“Nowadays employers will look at who you want to be rather than only your program and experiences.”

Also on the guest panel, Dr Achim Fock, World Bank Manager, Portfolio and Operations spoke about the challenges and opportunities for the younger generation in Vietnam’s integrated economy.
