RMIT Bee Battlefield

1. Purpose:

RMIT School of English & University Pathways is organizing the RMIT Spelling Battle to:

  • Create an environment for candidates to familiarize themselves with the pressure of English exams in an international standard environment as well as practice confidence, acumen and quick response skills;
  • Help candidates consolidate their vocabulary, improve pronunciation as well as use English confidently;
  • Elevate the candidates' passion and interest in learning English;
  • Provide contestants an opportunity to interact and learn from each other through participating in rewarding activities.

2. Eligibility:

  • Contestants must come from Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi and Danang.
  • Contestants will have been born from 1996 to 2008 (12-25 years old).
  • Achieve a level of Upper Intermediate or higher based on RMIT’s English placement test.

3. Timeline:

  • Preliminary Round: March 2021
  • Semi-final Round: 04 April 2021
  • Final Round: 24 April 2021 & 25 April 2021

4. Contest rules:

4.1. Preliminary Round:

For schools

  • The Preliminary Round is an English written test.
  • Schools selected for the competition will register the number of students participating in the written test. RMIT will run this writing contest on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning in February and March 2021 or another schedule in coordination with each school. The test will be delivered directly or online, depending on the government's guidance based on the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The 10 students with the highest score from each school will be selected to continue to participate in the next round.

For individual contestants:

Register for the Preliminary Round as scheduled by RMIT on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning in March 2021. The preliminary round will be conducted in person or  online, depending on the government's guidance based on the COVID-19 situation.

4.2. Semi-final Round:

  •  In this round, the winners of the Preliminary Round will answer the same questions and will be eliminated right after an incorrect answer.
  • The semi-finals will be held on 04/04/2020.
  • This round will select 20 students from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi & Danang to participate in the National Final.

4.3. Final Round:

  •  The final round will take place on 24 April 2021 & 25 April 2021
  • During this round, contestants will compete one-on-one. Each student participates in a match with their component which is decided by random draw.
  • The winner of each match will win the program prize. There will be 10 winners in this round.
  • Students attend the Final Round with Parents. Parents will be able to assist students during the final round of the competition.
  • Each match will be recorded and broadcast on RMIT English's official Youtube channel and Facebook. Contestants agree that RMIT can use their videos and photos for marketing and educational purposes.

5. Prize structure:

  • The winner of the Final Round will receive an IELTS Preparation short course worth 10,000,000 VND and an Amazon Kindle.
  • Students who join the Final Round and do not win will receive an Amazon Kindle.
  •  Students who join the Semi-Final Round will receive a scholarship of VND 2,600,000 for the IELTS Preparation program and a gift of 200,000 VND.
  • Every student who attends the battle will receive a scholarship of 1,900,000 VND for the English for Teen program.

6. Conditions for educational sponsorship:

  • Educational sponsorships cannot be transferred to another person or exchanged for cash.
  • Educational sponsorship values cannot be combined with any other promotional or discount program for English courses at RMIT Vietnam.
  • Educational sponsorship values are applicable to English for Teens Program or IELTS Pathway program at RMIT Vietnam.
  • Educational sponsorship values are entitled to only one campaign per year.
