Dr. Piotr Wajda is a lecturer at RMIT Vietnam’s School of Communication & Design, where he teaches courses in media studies, film and culture theory. He holds a PhD in Humanities from the University of Gdańsk, where his research focused on the aesthetics and evolution of Nordic horror cinema. His academic background blends film theory, cultural studies, and visual ethnography, with a growing emphasis on media archaeology and participatory art practices.
Before joining RMIT, Dr. Wajda held teaching and research positions in Poland and Scandinavia, including a visiting scholarship at Stockholm University. He has coordinated interdisciplinary courses in film art, co-organized international conferences on contemporary cinema, and contributed to cultural education programs for major institutions such as the Gdynia Film School and the National Centre for Culture Poland.
He has published in peer-reviewed journals including Panoptikum, and the Journal of Adaptation in Film & Performance, and has served on editorial boards of academic publications. His non-traditional research outcomes has been exhibited in Poland and Vietnam, often focusing on themes of memory, landscape, and urban transformation.
Currently, Dr. Wajda leads the Tier I research project The post-digital palimpsest: Future heritage and digital transformation of HCMC, which explores how analog photography and AI-generated art can be used to document and reimagine urban heritage. The project emphasizes participatory methods and hybrid creative practices, contributing to interdisciplinary research in visual culture, digital humanities, and urban studies.
