Unscripted, unstoppable: Students interview RMIT alumni taking on the world

To mark our 25th anniversary, RMIT Vietnam has released a new season of its “How My Journey Started” podcast, showcasing the international careers of alumni who have lived, worked and led across four continents.

Since opening in 2000, RMIT Vietnam has graduated more than 25,500 students, many of whom have gone on to shape industries, communities, and policies in Vietnam and beyond. The podcast series, hosted by current RMIT Vietnam students, revisits these alumni's journeys through candid, intergenerational conversations that explore how global careers are built, sustained, and redefined over time.

Student hosts driving authentic conversations

What makes this podcast uniquely impactful is the intergenerational connection between current RMIT students and accomplished alumni. Student hosts Tran Khanh Linh, Do Nguyen Hong Ngoc, and Le Ha Phuong Linh, guided the conversations, bringing fresh perspectives and questions that resonate with their peers.

"I really admire alumni who've ventured out and built global careers," reflected Khanh Linh, who interviewed Paul Huynh in London. "This was a chance to hear from someone who's not only successful but also grounded in their values."

These conversations go beyond career highlights to explore the authentic human experiences behind each success story – the doubts, pivots, and resilience that shaped each journey.

Breaking boundaries across continents

Season 2 takes audience across London, Paris, Barcelona and Ho Chi Minh City – spotlighting alumni who have taken their RMIT degrees and turned them into global careers.

In London, Executive MBA alumnus and KPMG International Global People COO Paul Huynh reflected on a career shaped by three countries and one constant: people.

“It’s not about your title – it’s about how you treat people and bring them with you,” he said.

In Paris, Huyen Le, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate, shared how she moved to France without speaking the language and rebuilt her career in digital marketing at Ingenico.

“You’ll never feel perfectly prepared. Be bold, make the leap – and take responsibility for your choice”, she said.

In Barcelona, Lisa Rice-Duek went from hospital leadership in Vietnam to leading digital health initiatives across Europe.

“The red thread in my life? Finding communities – and then building them,” she said.

The series wraps in Ho Chi Minh City, where Angela Ngan Nguyen – alumnus, former lecturer, and now senior advisor at the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute – reflected on 24 years of evolving with RMIT.

“Success isn’t linear. Stay open. Stay curious. Surround yourself with people who lift you up – and enjoy every step,” she said.

From Vietnam to the world

As RMIT Vietnam celebrates 25 years of educational impact, "How My Journey Started" demonstrates how the University has prepared generations of graduates to thrive in global contexts.

With a powerful alumni network of more than half of million members globally, including 25,500 graduated from the Vietnam campus, RMIT graduates are part of a vibrant community that spans industries, continents, and causes. This network not only connects alumni to mentors, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, but also reflects shared values of inclusion, sustainability, and a commitment to building a better Vietnam and a better world.

The series reveals common themes across diverse stories: embracing uncertainty, maintaining curiosity, building meaningful connections, and finding purpose through reinvention. Each episode also emphasises lifelong learning as essential to career development. Whether through formal education like Angela's continued academic pursuits or Lisa's self-directed pivot into digital health, these alumni demonstrate that learning extends far beyond graduation.

"You'll need to learn about yourself first, and then you befriend it and find the key core interest – a passion or light that can never be turned off in you," Huyen advised current students.

"How My Journey Started" is available on RMIT Vietnam's digital channels: YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, and Apple Podcast.

For students curious about building their own global careers, this podcast offers both inspiration and practical insights from those who have successfully charted their own paths from RMIT Vietnam to the world.
