AI training program attracts 250,000 educators and education administrators

The Ministry of Education and Training has cooperated with RMIT University Vietnam to launch a nationwide training program on AI for educators and education administrators.

On 5 July, the Ministry of Education and Training in collaboration with RMIT University Vietnam officially kicked off an online training series on artificial intelligence (AI) for Vietnamese educators. This is the first official AI training program in the Vietnamese education sector to be made available to teachers and education administrators of K-12 schools nationwide.

The program is a key activity within the “Vietnam National Forum on Education Innovation with AI”, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Training and RMIT University Vietnam in 2025.

A thorough preparation and approval process

Following the Forum’s launching ceremony in April in Hanoi, a team of experts from the Empowering educators with AI (EEAI) project and the Government Affairs department at RMIT Vietnam worked closely with the Ministry of Education and Training to prepare for the training program. After careful review and evaluation, the Ministry of Education and Training formally approved the training program at the end of June.

The program features five in-depth topics, from fundamental knowledge of AI and UNESCO's AI competency framework to practical applications, such as integrating AI in teaching using the TPACK model, designing assessments, creating innovative learning products, and building educational chatbots. In addition to providing pre-recorded videos via the Ministry’s TEMIS training system for more than one million educators in Vietnam, the project team is organising five online workshops to create a space for discussion, Q&A, and practical guidance for exercises.

Impressive results from the first workshop

The program has attracted special attention from the education community. It received 250,000 registrations ahead of the first workshop, which was livestreamed on multiple platforms including Microsoft Teams, YouTube, and Facebook for registered participants.

The workshop, conducted by Dr Tran Duc Linh (Project lead) and Dr Pham Chi Thanh (Deputy project lead) of RMIT University Vietnam, was a great success:

  • Over 150,000 people joined the online session at the same time on YouTube and Facebook.
  • Those unable to attend live can watch a recording of the session, which has now reached more than 635,000 views.
  • Educators have shared positive comments and reviews about the content, and sent tens of thousands of learning artefacts to the project team within just two days of the workshop.

In his program opening speech, Mr Nguyen Hong Dao, Head of the Development Division under the Department of Teachers and Education Administrators, Ministry of Education and Training, said: “This training program aims to provide both fundamental knowledge about AI and effective tools to support teachers in their teaching and innovation. More importantly, this is an open forum for teachers to not just learn but also share and diffuse AI-driven educational initiatives across the educator community nationwide.”

Meanwhile, Dr Tran Duc Linh expressed his delight at the significant turnout and the teachers’ eager participation in the exercises and discussions. He shared that in addition to introducing different AI tools, the project team also integrated pedagogical and creative elements to support teachers and administrators in their practical application of AI in educational activities.

Upcoming plans

The training program will continue with four more online workshops every Saturday until 2 August. After completing the program, educators are encouraged to apply AI in their teaching activities and continue to develop innovative artefacts to share with the Forum's organising committee.

In December 2025, the “Vietnam Education Innovation Festival with AI” is expected to be held at RMIT University Vietnam. The event will feature:

  • The final round of a national contest on AI applications in education and a ceremony to honour educators with excellent projects
  • A showcase of educational initiatives with AI and digital technology application
  • The closing ceremony of the 2025 Forum

With the participation of numerous educators nationwide, the program serves to improve the educators’ technological capacity and contributes to promoting innovation in the Vietnamese education system.
