MOU to enrich student experiences

RMIT University Vietnam and Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Vietnam (Bosch) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance the existing collaboration between the two organisations.

Signed on 9 January at the University’s Saigon South campus, the agreement furthers cooperation in a number of areas including Work Integrated Learning courses, sponsorships, scholarships, research, and internship and management trainee programs. Representatives from Bosch will also participate in an Industry Advisory Board which will advise RMIT Vietnam’s School of Science & Technology on the development of its curriculum.

Mr Baskaran Rakkiappan, Managing Director of Bosch Vietnam, said the partnership with a highly ranked, reputable university such as RMIT marks an important milestone for Bosch, a leading global supplier of technology and services.

“It is clear that there is a need for collaboration between industry and academia,” Mr Rakkiappan said.

“There are quite a lot of possibilities for us like supporting recruitment, internships, partnerships in projects, and incubation in the domains of engineering, information technology and even with management areas like human resources and leadership development.”

The partnership with RMIT Vietnam will enable Bosch to add value in the area of emerging digital transformation, and contribute to Vietnam and its community, added Mr Rakkiappan.

RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald said she was very pleased with the agreement and appreciative of Bosch’s support of the University. This included Bosch’s recent participation in RMIT’s City Challenge, a two-day program which attracted more than 400 students, industry experts and advisors from around the world to address the topic of innovation in Ho Chi Minh City.

Professor McDonald noted that there are multiple areas for potential collaboration.

“The obvious association would be in the area of engineering, but it actually goes further than that, because you will need design, business and HR people,” Professor McDonald said. “There are a wide range of talents that we generate that would be suitable for your organisation.”

Professor McDonald believes that the University is equipping its students with the skills needed to excel in organisations like Bosch, thanks to the University’s dedicated staff, updated programs and textbooks, authentic assessment, and programs like Personal Edge.

“It’s about more than just the attainment of qualifications,” Professor McDonald said. “We want our students to be extremely well presented. We want them to be good communicators, to be citizens of the organisation they go into.”

As outlined in the MOU, Bosch will collaborate with RMIT in WIL (Work Integrated Learning) courses where it can act as a client with real world problems which RMIT Vietnam student will help solve. Bosch will also provide company tours for RMIT students; sponsor technical equipment for the use of teaching and learning in engineering labs; provide internship and management trainee program opportunities; support students with their capstone projects; provide guest talks and conduct workshops and seminars; provide scholarships for high achieving students; collaborate on research opportunities with RMIT’s academic staff; and participate in the Industry Advisory Board of RMIT Vietnam’s School of Science & Technology.
