Career Fair connects students with industry

Graduates today are entering a workforce that is increasingly more complex.

To help students and alumni navigate the transition from university to industry, RMIT Vietnam hosts an annual Career Fair, with the 2018 event offering a comprehensive range of services.

"This event aims to be a one-stop-shop for current students and alumni," said Manuela Spiga, Regional Senior Manager Careers, Alumni & Industry Relations.

"Not only will it offer participants the opportunity to interview with a diverse range of employers from local and international companies, it will also help them advance their career pathway through authentic learning experiences.” 

This year’s Career Fair included assistance on applications for inbound and outbound internships; recruitment for part-time or full-time jobs and management trainee programs; on-the-spot interviews; industry networking; and career workshops facilitated by industry guest speakers.

Annual Career Fair 2018 through numbers

Organised in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the events attracted nearly 1600 online and offline CVs, more than 900 participants and 100 on-the-spot recruitment interviews.

The event included the participation of more than 50 RMIT industry partners including Unilever Vietnam, Prudential Vietnam, DHL Vietnam, Intel, Coc Coc, Shopee, L’Oréal Vietnam, Capital Land, Panasonic Vietnam, Aeon and InterContinental Saigon.

Ms Tracey Do, Human Resource Manager at Shopee, expressed her excitement over joining and sponsoring the event for the first time, saying it connects and benefits both the industry and students. She hopes that after the event Shopee will be able to recruit more candidates from RMIT, adding to the alumni crew currently working at the company.

Meanwhile, Mr Le Tran Quoc Thai, Talent Acquisition Manager of L'Oréal Vietnam, appreciated the proactive nature of RMIT Vietnam students at the Career Fair.

"Through talking with students at the networking session and at our information booth at the event, RMIT Vietnam students showed huge interest in working at L'Oréal Vietnam by learning about our products beforehand, discussing the need for recruitment and their career orientation for the future,” Mr Thai said.

“This helps students understand themselves and prepare well before graduation."

Mr Nguyen Minh Nhut, Human Resources Director of Maison, one of the largest international fashion distributors in Vietnam, said that RMIT Vietnam’s programs meet the hiring needs of his company.

"It would be appropriate for us to recruit RMIT Vietnam candidates who are studying in the fields of fashion, digital marketing and design,” Mr Nhut shared.

“In addition, experiencing an international learning environment makes it easy for them to adapt to a new environment quickly."

The Career Fair was the closing event of a series of diverse activities that made up Career Week 2018. These included exploring other languages and cultures and observing the operations of companies, as well as workshops on how to improve business skills.
