RMIT Vietnam hosts first Alumni Business Exhibitions

RMIT Vietnam, in partnership with the Australia Alumni in Vietnam group, organised the inaugural Alumni Business Exhibition on 5 and 12 May in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, respectively.

In each city, the event showcased around 40 emerging and established businesses which are owned by alumni from RMIT Vietnam, as well as from other Australian universities, said Manuela Spiga, RMIT Vietnam Senior Manager for Careers & Industry Relations.

More than 520 participants joined RMIT Vietnam’s first Alumni Business Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.

“RMIT Vietnam is hosting this event for the first time, and it features outstanding businesses in a wide range of industries, such as manufacturing, education, hospitality, retail and many others,” Ms Spiga said.

“We aim to support the success of RMIT Vietnam alumni and Australian alumni in general by exhibiting their businesses and connecting them with both the Vietnamese and international communities.”

Pham Tuan, who graduated from the Executive MBA program in 2017, said that such alumni events provide a meaningful way to stay connected with former classmates, develop new networks and pursue business opportunities.

As Founder and Director of Cong Bang Corporation, Tuan, also known as Eric, displayed his company's thermal insulation products at the Alumni Business Exhibition.

"The alumni network is very meaningful. It's a chance for every alumnus to meet together,” he said.

“We can exchange experiences and we can exchange knowledge and, especially, we can expand our networks to grow our business. It's about friends and relationships."

In addition to the main exhibition, participants had the opportunity to hear from entrepreneurs, professionals and business executives during panel discussions on the topic of “fail smart”.

“During the Fail Smart Talk Show, panellists shared their stories, personal failures and lessons they have learned, which are much more valuable for business owners and those interested in starting their own business than simply listening to success stories,” Ms Spiga said.

“Alumni could also join the Express Mentoring session with professionals from industries including finance, marketing, logistics, human resources and startups who shared expertise and exchanged experiences with people from the same industry.”

The events in Hanoi and HCMC attracted 400 and 520 participants respectively.
