RMIT Vietnam and VinaCapital announce prestigious term professorship

This week RMIT Vietnam and VinaCapital announced the establishment of a four-year term professorship to conduct research in economics and the capital market in Vietnam.

“Vietnam is developing rapidly, and to fully understand where the country may be headed requires an expanded body of research and analysis,” said Don Lam, Co-founder and CEO of VinaCapital, a leading investment and asset management firm headquartered in Vietnam.

“We are excited to play a part in bringing a world-class scholar to Vietnam to conduct ground-breaking research about Vietnam’s economy, its capital markets, and other relevant subject matters.

“We believe that the research produced will help give us new insights on where the economy is today and, more importantly, in the years ahead.

“RMIT is at the forefront of academic excellence in Vietnam, and we are pleased to partner with them in this valuable endeavour.”

This week RMIT Vietnam and VinaCapital announced the establishment of a four-year term professorship to conduct research in economics and the capital market in Vietnam.

The outstanding international academic talent chosen for this term professorship will be based at either of RMIT Vietnam’s Hanoi City or Saigon South campuses. The professor will be expected to publish research in academic journals and other outlets, as well as present at high-profile national and international conferences. Additionally, he or she will be expected to run thought leadership workshops in Vietnam.

Professor Gael McDonald, President of RMIT Vietnam, said that term professorships are common in other parts of the world, but are less common in Vietnam.

“Term professorships enable universities to attract some of the greatest minds to their institutions,” Professor McDonald said.

“We believe this professorship will be extremely valuable, not only to VinaCapital but also our students, fellow faculty members, and the broader community as a whole.

“We appreciate VinaCapital’s support and look forward to a very productive partnership.”

Recruitment for the position will begin within the next month, following the standard RMIT Vietnam selection process, with VinaCapital participation in the selection panel. The successful applicant is expected to commence in September 2017.

The official agreement between VinaCapital and RMIT Vietnam was signed on 29 March 2017, and witnessed by the Honourable Philip Dalidakis, Victoria’s Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, who was visiting the University’s Saigon South campus as part of a trip to Vietnam to promote investment in Victoria, home of RMIT’s main campus in Melbourne.
