Business student participates at Asia-Pacific Week 2017

Le Tu Trinh Quy, a final year Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) student, was accepted as a delegate at Asia-Pacific Week 2017, where he addressed some of the region’s most pressing issues.

Hosted by the Australian National University from 25-30 June in Canberra, Australia, the ANU Asia Pacific Week gave 80 of the world's top university students the chance to engage with leading thinkers, focused on the theme of A Changing Landscape.

The conference examined the changes occurring in the Asia-Pacific region and the steps that must be taken to ensure its stability and growth. The selection process was very competitive and Quy was selected out of a record number of applicants worldwide.

“The week was such a life-changing experience for me because I got the chance to learn from and interact with leading scholars, policy makers and diplomats, and to encounter new knowledge and perspectives, make lasting networks, and engage in new and ongoing debates,” Quy said.

“Whether in simulations, panels or debates, I was taken out of my comfort zone and challenged around issues and perspectives I might not have encountered before. The panels covered topics ranging from the region's environmental sustainability to the understanding of gender and sexuality in the region.”

Quy was able to overcome financial constraints through the generosity of his family, allowing him to join his fellow applicants in pursuing new opportunities to improve the region.

“I have made the most of this opportunity that I have worked so hard for. I am confident to say that I left the conference with long-lasting global friendships and a more nuanced understanding of the region,” Quy said.

Quy has been developing a keen interest for Asia-Pacific studies over a number of years, which helped him to gain a better understanding of trends and developments in the Asia-Pacific region during the conference.

“I am always curious and interested in figuring out how things work and learning to solve problems in life logically,” Quy said.

“I would like to investigate how these changes can be controlled to encourage growth and maintain stability in the region. That is the reason why I want to be part of the program where I can learn, grow, and contribute.”

Quy aims to complete his degree and begin his career at PriceWaterHouseCoopers Vietnam, where he has been hired as a Tax Consultant.

“The division that I am working for is Corporate Tax. I am excited for the new journey ahead and can’t wait to see what goods the future may bring,” Quy said.
