TechGenius Competition

RMIT University Vietnam and Hoa Hoc Tro Newspaper have teamed up to bring you the TechGenius Competition. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese high school students to challenge their creativity, practice technology solutions and receive guidance from industry experts and RMIT’s professional lecturers.

Who can enter?

Students from high schools in Vietnam participating in teams (3 members per team and the members may come from different high schools).

Themes

Each team must submit a proposal to solve an ongoing issue under the following themes:

  • Environment 

  • Health 

  • Online teaching and learning

Categories

Each submission (a proposal for the preliminary round and a prototype for the final round) must fall under one of the following categories: 

  • IT solutions 

  • Engineering solutions

Prizes

Total prize value is up to 170 million VND, in particular:

  • 02 First Prizes (IT category): Prizes worth 30,000,000 VND per team
  • 02 Second Prizes (IT category): Prizes worth 10,000,000 VND per team
  • 02 First Prizes (Engineering category): Prizes worth 30,000,000 VND per team
  • 02 Second Prizes (Engineering category): Prizes worth 10,000,000 VND per team
  • 02 People’s Choice Prizes: (02 teams receiving most online votes) Prizes worth 5,000,000 VND per team

Note: Prizes cannot be exchanged for monetary value or any other items.

Rounds

  • Preliminary: Teams register and submit the proposals to cuocthisangkiencongnghe@gmail.com before 23:59 on 30 May 2021.
  • Training sessions: Teams who successfully passed the preliminary round will participate in online training sessions and Q&A sessions with judges and lecturers from RMIT. After that, each team will develop the proposed product/ project and film a demo video to introduce the product/ project’s prototype. All videos will be published on fan page RMIT & Sinh viên tương lai where audiences can vote for the People’s Choice Prizes.
  • Online Semi-final: Teams present about their product/project and join a Q&A session with experts invited by the organisers. Top 10 will proceed to the Online Final.
  • Online Final: will take place at 9:30am on Sunday 05 December 2021.

Judging criteria

Submissions will be judged on:

  • Problem-solving approach 
  • Creativity
  • Technical execution
  • Overall presentation

Rules and regulations

  • The submitted product/project must be an original work with full credit given to the creator(s), who, in this case, are the competition’s participating student(s). Any form of copyright infringement and plagiarism will not be tolerated. If caught infringing on copyright or plagiarising, the participating student(s) will be immediately disqualified from the competition. 
  • The submitted product/project must be deemed appropriate for the age group of participating student(s) and must not go against the culture as well as the moral values of Vietnamese society. That means: no excessive use of coarse languages; no encouragement of extreme thoughts and ideas; no incitement of violence and social discrimination; no sensitive contents, such as sex and nudity; no input of political opinions. 
  • The competition strictly prohibits cheating (buying interaction, using like-hacking tools…) in any form. 
  • Participating students are allowed and encouraged to seek for mentors who are high school teachers/ seniors with relevant experience to consult and accompany you throughout the competition. However, product/project with professional intervention from outsiders will receive little to no appraisal from the judges. 
  • The decisions of the judges are final.
