The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 goals that were endorsed by the United Nations (UN) as a universal roadmap for a sustainable future. The SDGs target to safeguard the environment, eradicate poverty and guarantee that everyone lives in peace and prosperity by 2030.
RMIT research clusters are all aligned with SDGs, and the purpose of the Sustainability Hub for Educators answers the call of SDG 4 – quality education.

RMIT promotes global collaboration towards the achievement of the SDGs through triangulation of expertise across our campuses in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Vietnam is making great progress towards achieving the objectives of SDG 4 (Quality Education). Primary education standards have improved through strategic planning by Vietnamese Government and public-private partnerships.
The aim is to facilitate lifelong learning, as the nation addresses some of the challenges in the education sector to achieve truly inclusive and equitable quality education in Vietnam.
In many rural areas, there are an inadequate number of schools and a shortage of teachers and educational resources.
The quality of education often varies greatly between urban and rural schools, contributing to persistent disparities in learning outcomes.
Sustainability education in Vietnamese universities is still at an early stage. While participation is gradually increasing, significant progress is needed to fully meet the objectives of SDG 4 and strengthen Vietnam’s role in global sustainability efforts. Given these ongoing challenges, achieving inclusive and high-quality education remains a difficult goal.
The Sustainability Hub for Educators works to address educational challenges faced in Vietnam.
The 2025 Extended Report on SDG 4 (external link, PDF)
Sustainability is essential to Vietnam’s long-term future. As the country continues to urbanise, industrialise and integrate into the global economy, decisions made today will shape environmental quality, social well-being and economic resilience for generations to come.
Globally, sustainability is commonly understood through three interdependent pillars: environmental protection, social equity and economic prosperity.
This three-pillar framework (external link) highlights that lasting development cannot be achieved by focusing on only one aspect; progress in each area supports and reinforces the others. The environmental pillar addresses natural resources and ecosystems, the social pillar focuses on human well-being and justice, and the economic pillar ensures long-term prosperity and stability.
The following infographics present key insights for each pillar. Data, statistics and key findings are drawn from international and regional reports, research publications and official datasets. By turning information into easy-to-read visuals, these infographics help students understand and discuss sustainability challenges and opportunities in Vietnam in university classes.
