Pharmacies

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) drug regulations differ internationally. Medications that are easily accessible in your home country may be restricted or unavailable in Vietnam.
  • Pharmacies often suggest local alternatives. For instance, aspirin is not commonly stocked, whereas paracetamol is widely available.
  • Limited access to specialised medications: Not all pharmacies carry items like EpiPens or insulin pens. If you rely on these or other specific medications, availability may be inconsistent.
  • Be cautious with alternatives: always inform pharmacists of your allergies and medical conditions before accepting substitute medications. Pharmacist consultation is often required even for some OTC drugs.
  • Bring essential medications: If you need a specific medication that cannot be substituted, it’s best to bring it with you, along with a doctor’s letter or prescription detailing the medication name, dosage, and necessity.
