More than 550 academics, researchers, doctoral students and industry practitioners from over 30 countries gathered at RMIT Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City from 16 to 20 June for the 14th Asia Academy of Management (AAOM) Main Conference, held jointly with the 2026 Taiwan Academy of Management (TAOM) Conference.

Centred on the theme "Innovation, Digital Transformation, and the Future of Management", the conference brought together leading scholars to exchange ideas on how organisations are navigating technological disruption, evolving business models and an increasingly complex global environment.

The conference program featured 388 accepted competitive papers, 101 accepted poster papers and three panel sessions, with contributions from scholars representing 53 countries and regions. Delegates also took part in keynote presentations, professional development workshops and dedicated consortiums for doctoral students and early-career academics.

Professor Mike Peng, President of the Asia Academy of Management, said the conference reflected AAOM's longstanding commitment to advancing management scholarship relevant to Asia while contributing to global knowledge.

He said: “Founded in 1998, AAOM is the longest-running and most-prestigious academic association of management that is in Asia, on Asia, and of Asia.”

According to Associate Professor Burkhard Schrage, Program Co-chair of the conference and Associate Head of Department, Management at RMIT Vietnam, the conference theme reflected the profound changes taking place across the region and around the world.

“As Asia continues to grow and the global landscape rapidly transforms, technological advancements are driving fundamental changes across all sectors of society. In this shifting environment, it is increasingly important for us as scholars to continuously visit and revisit new theoretical and empirical approaches to investigate these developments.

Associate Professor Schrage said: “We are especially proud to welcome the AAOM Main Conference to Vietnam for the first time. The country's rapid economic development, entrepreneurial energy and digital transformation make it an ideal setting for global discussions on the future of management.”

The strong international response to the conference highlighted the growing importance of collaborative research in addressing the opportunities and challenges arising from innovation and digital transformation.

Professor Robert McClelland, Dean of The Business School at RMIT Vietnam, said the conference happened when research and international collaboration were more important than ever.

"We meet at a time of extraordinary change. New technologies, evolving workplaces, and global challenges are reshaping the way we live, work, and lead."

"Research matters, not only because it helps us understand the world as it is, but because it helps us imagine what it could become."

Professor McClelland said bringing together scholars from across Asia and beyond would help generate ideas and partnerships with lasting impact.

"That is why conferences like AAOM are so valuable. They bring together diverse perspectives, spark new ideas, and create connections that can lead to meaningful impact far beyond the conference itself."

Hosted by RMIT Vietnam, the conference reinforced the University's role in connecting Vietnam, Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region through research and education. It also showcased Vietnam's emergence as a destination for international academic exchange, as scholars from around the world came together to explore the future of management in an era of rapid technological and organisational change.

About the Asia Academy of Management (AAOM)

The mission of the Asia Academy of Management (AAOM) is to assume global leadership in the advancement of management theory, research and education of relevance to Asia. In August 1997, more than 60 Academy of Management conference participants met and agreed to set up the Asia Academy of Management with the above mission. They endorsed the principle that the AAOM should be an independent organisation run in Asia, with links to the Academy of Management and other scholarly organisations. The objective of the AAOM is thus to encourage contextualised management research with Asia relevance towards global contribution to scholarship.
