Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City Sarah Hooper praised the initiative. She said: “The concept of The LIVEBRARY is brilliant. Because the true legacy of education lives not within the walls of an institution, but in the lives of its people. Each of you has a story, a journey that connects what you learned to what you now do. It strengthens the Australia-Vietnam partnership in real and visible ways. And just as RMIT is marking a moment of reflection and celebration, it’s also beginning a new chapter.”

The LIVEBRARY features a rich collection of alumni-led initiatives, projects, and innovations that are making tangible impacts on the community. Each story reflects at least one of the five values, including transformation, empowerment, creation, inspiration, and sustainability.

Among the standout changemakers is Le Thi Hanh Nguyen, a 2015 Bachelor of Business graduate and manager of Le Duc Ha Terra Cotta Workshop. Drawing from her family’s 35-year-old craft, she has redefined perceptions of Vietnamese terracotta, bridging heritage with innovation and elevating terracotta from an “inexpensive” or “unfinished” material to a celebrated element of contemporary Vietnamese design.

Another inspiring example is Nguyen Minh Phuong, a 2011 Bachelor of Commerce graduate and co-founder of La Library in Ninh Binh. Established in 2017, La Library is a permaculture farm, learning centre, and farm stay dedicated to helping people reconnect with nature, discover themselves, and build a community of like-minded individuals. Here, learning is not only about practical skills but also about understanding one’s identity and place in the world.

The impact of RMIT education is also evident in the work of Hoang Anh Duc, who earned his PhD in Educational Leadership & Administration in 2024 and founded ILMS: Teaching & Learning Literacy for Educators. His initiative was inspired by the challenges Vietnamese teachers faced such as limited English proficiency and scarce professional development, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, ILMS was recognised as a Global Education Innovation by HundrED.org, placing Vietnam alongside leading educational innovations worldwide.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Director of Careers, Alumni & Industry Relations Manuela Spiga shared: “This is more than a celebration. It’s a tribute to our roots, a spotlight on today’s impact, and an invitation to co-author the future.”

The LIVEBRARY stands as a testament to the strength and impact of the RMIT alumni community – past, present, and future. It is a living archive of stories that inspire, empower, and drive positive change, embodying the university’s commitment to shaping a better world through education and action.
