RMIT's largest graduation ceremony marks 25 years growing together with Vietnam

RMIT Vietnam celebrated a double milestone with its 25th anniversary and a record number of students – more than 2,900 graduands.

The University hosted vibrant graduation ceremonies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where graduates proudly crossed the stage to receive their testamurs and celebrated the culmination of their commitment and hard work.

RMIT Vietnam Class of 2025 celebrates their graduation.

Among this year’s graduating class were students from across Higher Education, including Higher Degree by Research (PhD), master's degrees, graduate certificates, and bachelor's degrees. Notably, there were ten new graduands from the Doctor of Philosophy in Management and Business. A total of 194 master’s degrees were awarded from across International Business, Business Administration, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence programs.

More than 1,240 graduates completed the Bachelor of Business program, forming the largest group of graduates, followed by the Digital Marketing (436) and Professional Communication (315) programs.

This year's ceremonies also celebrated the first cohorts of students from the Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation), Bachelor of Psychology and Master of Artificial Intelligence.

RMIT Vietnam Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Julia Gaimster praised the graduates for their hard work and dedication.

"Graduating from university is a huge achievement, and you should be incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication you have put into your studies," Professor Gaimster said.

"As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember that this is not the end of your education. The world is constantly changing, and it is essential to continue learning and growing throughout your life. Embrace new experiences, seek out knowledge, and never stop pursuing your passions."

A highlight was the presentation of the honorary doctorates to two distinguished recipients: former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam (2022-2024), Mr Andrew Goledzinowski AM received a Doctor of Laws honoris causa, and HopeBox Founder Ms Dang Thi Huong received a Doctor of Business honoris causa.

The honorary degree was awarded to Mr Goledzinowski for his contributions to education and business in Vietnam, Australia and around the world, and for strengthening diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia.

Ms Dang Thi Huong's journey began in Vietnam's Vinh Phuc Province. Moving to Hanoi at the age of 13, she joined KOTO, a non-profit supporting disadvantaged youth. Her determination led to an Australian scholarship, a successful technology career, and the founding of HopeBox - a social enterprise supporting women escaping abuse in Vietnam, rebuilding their confidence and reclaiming their lives. Recognised globally for her contributions to education and social change, Ms Huong exemplifies the transformative power of education and serves as a role model for the RMIT community.

Speaking at the ceremony in Hanoi, Australia’s Ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Ms Gillian Bird PSM expressed her satisfaction with the contributions RMIT has made to local education in Vietnam.

“RMIT has delivered high quality Australian qualifications and also made a lasting impact on the local communities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and across Vietnam,” she said.

“The relationship between Australia and Vietnam has never been stronger. Last year, we celebrated the elevation of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This builds on decades of collaboration in key areas such as trade, security, and education.”

Australia’s Ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Ms Gillian Bird PSM praised RMIT Vietnam for delivering high quality Australian qualifications and making a lasting impact on the local communities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and across Vietnam.

“Education has always been a fundamental part of our relationship, and the role of Australian education institutions with a presence in Vietnam cannot be overstated. Through transnational education programs, student exchanges, and research collaboration, Australian universities have become an integral part of the education landscape in Vietnam.”

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1887, RMIT University was built on a commitment to uplift communities and foster positive change, a purpose that continues to resonate in its identity across all its global campuses.

In 2000, RMIT Vietnam was established, and one year later, the first cohort of students began their transformative educational journey, initiating a legacy that would empower thousands of students across Vietnam and the region.

Today, 25 years later, RMIT Vietnam proudly stands with over 12,000 students, 1,300 dedicated staff, and nearly 25,500 alumni, making a profound and lasting impact on Vietnam's educational landscape, illuminating paths to success and inspiring generations to come.
