Students get ready to lead change

More than 110 students from around the world came together at RMIT’s Global Leader Experience to explore the biggest issues facing businesses, governments

"The Global Leader Experience gives RMIT students an opportunity to develop crucial cross-cultural competencies,” said Jogvan Klein, Director (International) at RMIT Vietnam.

“Working with fellow students from around the globe challenges our students to find big and workable solutions to big and difficult questions. This event is just one of many opportunities available to RMIT students to develop global competencies.”

The Global Leader Experience is delivered by UK based not-for-profit Common Purpose; a leadership development organisation that specialises in cross-boundary leadership.

After a number of successful deliveries in Melbourne, this program was delivered for the first time in Hanoi.

The aspiring leaders were immersed in an intense four-day program designed for students to develop leadership and cultural intelligence skills while establishing a genuinely global network.

During the first two days, participants learned to understand their personal leadership journeys. Through field trips and meetings with industry leaders, they also explored what it means for cities to adopt smart and inclusive initiatives.

The second half of the program allowed students to work in small, diverse groups and discuss solutions to major social issues in education, transportation, and environment.

Held at the University’s Hanoi campus last month, the free event involved 79 RMIT students from Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, as well as 31 students from the City University of London and Cambodia Transparency International.

The event will be followed by the City Challenge in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam this October and Singapore in November. RMIT students will also have the opportunity to complete 'Be CQ Ready'; a free online module designed to enhance Cultural Intelligence skills.
