RMIT Vietnam opens Foreign Language Training Centre in Danang

The RMIT University Danang Foreign Language Training Centre was launched today in Danang at a ceremony attended by numerous dignitaries.

The event saw the attendance of HE Mr Craig Chittick, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam; Australian Consul-General to Ho Chi Minh City Ms Karen Lanyon; and Mr Lam Quang Minh, Director of the Danang Department of Foreign Affairs.

The RMIT University Danang Foreign Language Training Centre was officially opened on 23 August 2018 by His Excellency Mr Craig Chittick (second from right), Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, in the presence of Mr Lam Quang Minh, Director of the Danang Department of Foreign Affairs (left); Ms Karen Lanyon, Australian Consul-General to Ho Chi Minh City (second from left); and Mr Sánchez-Barroso González José, the Spanish Deputy Consul General in Danang (right). “I very much welcome RMIT’s expansion in Danang and its contribution to the bilateral education ties between Australia and Vietnam. RMIT’s presence demonstrates the benefits brought by Australia’s investment in the education sector, from developing Vietnam’s future leaders to boosting its economic development,” Australian Ambassador HE Mr Craig Chittick said.

RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald said that the University seeks to contribute to the country through quality education, and to help Danang and the central region transform itself.

“Danang and the central region, long known for its abundance of natural beauty, with pristine beaches and heritage features, is now embarking upon a rapid period of economic development,” Professor McDonald said.

“The areas of tourism and hospitality, manufacturing, IT and commerce are now firmly entrenched as economic drivers for growth.

“As RMIT looks for opportunities to contribute to Vietnam and to positively impact the lives of people through quality education, the central region of Vietnam, centring on Danang, holds great promise for the further development of Vietnam’s next generation of leaders.”

Located at the V.Startup Office, FHome Building, 16 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hai Chau District, the Danang centre is RMIT Vietnam’s fourth location, giving the University a presence through the length of the country.

Initially the Foreign Language Training Centre will offer a number of English language programs, including:

  • An academic pathway for teens. The RMIT teens program is designed to prepare students from 12 to 17 in English and academic skills and has an outcome level of IELTS 6.5.
  • IELTS Preparation for students on a direct pathway to IELTS.
  • And English for specific purposes where RMIT regularly designs and delivers English courses for business and government departments based on their individual needs.

Commenting on the University’s contribution to Danang, Professor McDonald added: “the international standards of educational quality, the international flavour of RMIT Vietnam programs and the connectivity that the University has with industry, will add to the already burgeoning success story that is Danang, and Vietnam.”
