RMIT students benefit from collaboration with Digipost

A recent field trip to the DigiPost main office allowed Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication) students to benefit from the University’s ongoing collaboration with the media company.

“[During the field trip] students were shown every stage of the development process of a marketing campaign, given the opportunity to see the work in action, and encouraged to apply for internships now and in the future,” said David Harwell, a lecturer in the Professional Communication program.

“It was scheduled to educate students about actual careers that they can pursue with a Professional Communication degree.

“They learned about a broad range of possible activities for commerce and marketing, including incorporating content writing and audio-visual media marketing.”

The collaboration with DigiPost is part of the University’s efforts to engage with industry to provide students with real-world work experience.

RMIT alumnus Nguyen Thi Ngoc Que took part in an internship at DigiPost in October 2015 which led to her securing a position at the company as the Concept Lead. She believes that the internship prepared her for the tough realities of working in industry.

“Taking part in an internship program is not just good, it's necessary, to me at least,” Que said.

“Only when going to work will you understand the harsh demand of the industry and why it is like that.

“The company uses you to handle small jobs, and at the same time they offer you understanding of the industry and work experience.”

Andy Ho, owner of DigiPost, is an enthusiastic supporter of the cooperation with RMIT Vietnam and emphasises the importance of developing it further in the future.

“I see many exciting opportunities between RMIT and Digipost,” Andy said.

“Digipost and RMIT will continue to develop our partnership to nurture talent in the industry.”

“Many people coming into the industry are not being groomed well and this is affecting the growth of the industry as a whole. We need to create more pioneers!”
