RMIT Goodwill Cup raises money for elementary students

Hosted by RMIT Vietnam Saigon South Football Club, in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House, the 2017 Goodwill Cup has raised 30 million VND for the Ninh Gia school in Lam Dong province.

The competition attracted 16 teams from multi-national companies such as Prudential Finance, HSBC, Suntory Pepsico, Decathlon, Nash Tech, and Marico. RMIT staff also fielded a team, as did Vietnamese telecommunications company FPT.

RMIT Vietnam Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication) student and Football Club President Do Thanh Le Phuong said since it was first staged in 2015, the charity football tournament had become an important way to bring industry together for a meaningful cause.

“It is such a great opportunity for us to have all these companies compete in a friendly sporting environment, as well as building our connections,” he said. “It was a learning experience for me and my team who were preparing for this event for a long time.”

Decathlon Sales Representative Ms Phan Thi Mong Hoa praised the handling of the event. “It was nice to see the effort and excitement the RMIT students brought to the event which was very professionally organised from the preparation to the raising of funds from enterprises.”

The RMIT Goodwill Cup 2017’s football teams were divided into four pools and played in both Series A and Series B competitions. The RMIT Vietnam Staff team emerged victorious in Series B.
