RMIT to collaborate with VNU-Hanoi on joint research and training initiatives

On 21 April 2017, RMIT University Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi).

Through the MoU, RMIT Vietnam and VNU-Hanoi will co-operate in establishing closer links in a number of areas including:

  • enhancing academic quality and academic leadership in Vietnam;
  • conducting collaborative research projects;
  • exchanging faculty, researchers, and other research and administrative staff;
  • exchanging PhD supervisors and PhD students;
  • conducting lectures and organising symposia and conferences;
  • developing digital education practices;
  • promoting other academic cooperation as mutually agreed.

RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald said she felt excited and optimist at the possibilities for collaboration.

She emphasised that in the era of globalisation and interdependence, cooperative partnerships with other educational institutions of academic excellence are not an option, but a necessity.

“Our vision for continued excellence is to invest even more resources to enhance knowledge and foster wide-ranging research efforts to meet the new challenges in the era of globalisation, maximising on new opportunities for the benefit of the people of Vietnam and beyond,” Professor McDonald said.

“Therefore, the signing of this MoU agreement between our two universities today symbolises a partnership which we believe will lead to many new joint research and training initiatives, producing new synergies and academic value for both RMIT Vietnam and VNU-Hanoi in the years ahead.”

Professor Nguyen Hoang Hai, VNU-Hanoi Vice President, said he appreciated the fruitful partnership already established between VNU-Hanoi and RMIT Vietnam, especially with the founding of the VNU Institute for Education Quality Assurance. He also believed that the MoU signing would open up new opportunities for cooperation and suggested that both sides can collaborate on education and research projects, as well as on applying information technology in education and management.

During the signing ceremony, Professor Nguyen urged both sides to work together immediately to build up high-quality education and research programs.

The MoU will be effective for a period of five years from the date of signing.
