The forum, the first of its kind in Vietnam, saw the attendance of approximately 100 leaders, staff and students from local academic institutions, including Associate Professor Tran Van Nghia, Deputy Director of the Department of Accreditation and Education Quality Assessment, Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
Associate Professor Tran was very pleased to participate in the forum and appreciated RMIT Vietnam for organising the event.
“The MOET is committed to ensuring that our young people receive high quality education. We want them to reach their best potential and become productive members of society,” Associate Professor Tran said.
“Despite the best efforts of dedicated teachers, institutions may lack the resources and information needed for comprehensive quality assurance.
“This is a challenge facing many educational providers in Vietnam, and it is one that we in the MOET are hoping to address in the coming years.
“Today’s forum is an opportunity for leaders throughout the Vietnamese education sector to share ideas and learn about best practices that we can bring back to our home institutions.”
Scheduled activities included two plenary addresses and more than six break-out sessions.
Plenary sessions were as follows:
- “Developing institutional quality assurance and quality culture” by Dr Vernon Crew, Senior Fellow, LH Martin Institute, University of Melbourne;
- “Measuring and assuring quality in the online environment” by Dr Mark King, Associate Professor and Director, Educational Delivery Services, Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education, University of New South Wales, Australia.
Other topics discussed included:
- international higher education accreditation processes;
- quality-assurance guidelines for educational institutions in Vietnam;
- quality-assurance of learning practices in higher education; and
- tools for measuring quality in the student experience.
The event was held at RMIT Vietnam’s Saigon South campus on 22 October 2016.
