RMIT students get a competitive edge

RMIT University Vietnam’s Personal Edge has been redesigned and relaunched as Personal Edge+ [Plus].

Along with the University’s academic courses, the program will enable students to develop the right skills to impress future employers and bring their aspirations to life.

RMIT Vietnam President Professor Gael McDonald believes that the employability skills acquired through Personal Edge+ will prepare students for life and work after university.

“The needs of future employers are not only for graduates with industry-specific knowledge – they also need employees who have soft skills to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate in this fast-paced 21st-century world,” Professor McDonald said.

“Personal Edge+ is part of our effort to equip students with the skills that will make a difference in their future.

President Professor Gael McDonald launched the new Personal Edge+ at an event at RMIT Vietnam's Saigon South campus.

The new program will focus on helping students develop five skill sets in being a creative thinker, a confident communicator, a cross-cultural team player, an ethical leader, and a career strategist.

To qualify for a Personal Edge+ certificate and an annotation on their transcript, students must complete ten learning experiences (two in each skill set) during their time at RMIT Vietnam.

Under the new Personal Edge+ format, students can use club leadership or other activities—in addition to attending formal workshops—to build their employability skills and qualify for the program.

After each skill-building experience, be it a formal workshop, an online course or a real life leadership activity, students will be required to submit a short reflection and evidence to document the application of the new skill.

Each semester will have a different theme. This semester, the program addresses Meaningful Relationship and will offer workshops (in Saigon South and Hanoi) on a wide range of topics including building self-confidence, developing relationships at work, solving complex problems with groups, and others. This semester’s program will also provide opportunities for students to join a networking session and a television show by FBNC Channel.
